Today we’d like to introduce you to Chivonne Clairmont.
Hi Chivonne, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in 2006 when I moved from England to the United States. I was raised in humble beginnings, and from an early age I felt a strong calling to create change in marginalized communities—communities I did not always see represented or supported growing up. In 2005, I visited Fort Lauderdale, Florida, fell in love with the state, and discovered a university that aligned with my vision for the future. That visit became the foundation for a life‑changing decision.
I came to the U.S. as an international student, a path that required immense sacrifice, resilience, and determination. Over the next fourteen years in South Florida, my life centered on study, service, and creation—working relentlessly toward both citizenship and a career rooted in purpose.
I committed myself fully to the field of mental health. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2012 and later graduated with honors from Nova Southeastern University in 2015 with a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Continuous education and professional development have always been a priority for me, allowing me to remain at the forefront of effective, evidence‑based therapeutic approaches.
My work in the community grew organically—by showing up to events with intention, aligning with causes that mattered, and serving where my impact could be meaningful. At my core, my passion has always been about uplifting others, amplifying unheard voices, and bringing authenticity to advocacy and healing spaces.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many women entrepreneurs, funding was one of my greatest challenges. I chose to build my business through self‑investment—working, saving, and reinvesting my own capital into my vision. There was very little guidance available on how to build a private practice from the ground up without generational knowledge or mentorship.
Finding the right space, refurbishing it, building a clinical team, attracting clients, and earning community trust has been—and continues to be—a dynamic and evolving process. Each challenge strengthened my resilience and reinforced my commitment to creating something sustainable and impactful.
Mindful Discovery Therapeutic Solutions (MDTS) is a multi‑state private practice dedicated to high‑quality, compassionate mental health care. We currently operate in Sunrise/Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Midtown Atlanta, Georgia, and have grown into a team of 15 diverse, highly skilled clinicians—and we are still expanding.
We hold certifications in trauma therapy, the Gottman Method, ADHD treatment, and grief counseling. Our team specializes in working with individuals and couples, particularly in areas such as affair recovery, communication repair, and relationship rebuilding. Collectively, our clinicians hold licenses and degrees in Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Professional Counseling, with additional specializations in substance abuse, collaborative divorce, and reunification therapy.
Our mission is to provide a safe, inclusive space where individuals, couples, and families can heal, grow, and build lasting emotional resilience.
Advocacy and philanthropy are central to who I am. In late 2025, I launched my nonprofit organization, No Ordinary Story, which focuses on supporting foster youth through access to mental health services, mentorship, and resources. I also serve as a Board Member and Public Relations Chair for the Delta Education and Life Development Foundation, where I have been actively involved since 2018 in advancing initiatives that uplift underserved communities.
Additionally, I partner with I Will Survive, Inc., a nonprofit focused on cancer support services, with a special emphasis on serving veterans. Following the tragic events at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in February 2018, I was selected as one of the therapists providing critical trauma counseling to survivors and families—a momentary experience that deeply shaped my work as a clinician and reinforced my commitment to crisis‑response care.
Beyond direct clinical work, I am passionate about mental health advocacy, public speaking, mentorship, and business development coaching. I support emerging therapists in launching and growing sustainable private practices while maintaining ethical, high‑quality care. MDTS remains committed to inclusivity—serving clinicians, organizations, and communities while giving back whenever possible.
