Denise, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The journey of Korzen Hair is one marked by faith, resilience, and a deep commitment to addressing a vital need in the beauty industry. After losing a well-paying corporate job in early 2020, I felt a higher calling to embark on a new venture. Recalling advice from a former employer to stick to what I know, I decided to leverage my background as a hairstylist. My daughter and I envisioned launching a natural hair care line, firmly rooted in the belief that beauty begins with healthy hair. This led to the birth of Korzen Hair, a name inspired by the Polish word “Root,” symbolizing our slogan: “The Root to Healthy Hair.”
Due to our community facing significant issues such as traction alopecia, an under appreciation for textured hair, and a sense of marginalization among women with tight coily hair. Recognizing these challenges, we introduced Korzen Hair in the fall of 2020. Despite personal hurdles, including my son’s autism diagnosis in March 2021, we managed to launch our first products in the Milk & Manuka Honey line by fall 2021, followed by an additional product in Spring 2022. However, our journey was not without its trials. Shortly after the product launch, my daughter, who was also my co-founder, experienced severe mental health struggles, which required her to step back from the business.
Despite the setbacks, I felt a profound conviction to continue. Taking on the mantle of CEO and Founder of Korzen Hair, I initiated a rebranding process to broaden our appeal while staying true to our original vision. Our focus remains on promoting health and beauty for all hair types, with a special emphasis on the coily hair community. The journey of Korzen Hair is far from over, and I am committed to forging ahead, driven by the belief that everyone deserves to feel confident and beautiful in their natural hair.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a business owner, we have encountered various challenges on our journey. Initially, we encountered obstacles within our family, struggled to secure funding as a new venture, and had to navigate marketing strategies to identify our target audience.

Korzen Hair is a brand dedicated to educating others on proper natural hair care to maintain its health using effective techniques and products. As the owner of this emerging hair brand, I oversee daily operations, sales, and marketing efforts. What distinguishes our brand is the inclusion of inspirational messages on each product, our use of natural ingredients, and our commitment to supporting families impacted by mental health and autism. I take pride in Korzen Hair’s ability to persevere through challenges, driven my unwavering determination to connect with individuals in the community facing not only hair-related issues but also underlying traumas. Our goal is for customers who purchase our products to feel seen and supported, enhancing their confidence in their hair while also inspiring them through kindness and uplifting words. We aim to create a ripple effect of positivity, encouraging others to spread kindness as well.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the southern charm Atlanta has, the diverse culture, and the multitude of black owned businesses. What I least like about the city is the traffic.
