Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Tharpe.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
For more than 20 years, my career has been rooted in healthcare, with the last 15 years focused in Healthcare Information Technology. Throughout this journey, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside physicians, hospitals, and healthcare organizations, gaining a deep understanding of the ever‑evolving healthcare landscape.
What I didn’t realize early on was that I had naturally become a mentor. Over the years, women would come to me seeking guidance whether about certifications, career transitions, or stepping into better opportunities. I found myself coaching them, encouraging them, and helping them map out a plan for success. Watching so many of them go on to build rewarding careers became one of the most fulfilling parts of my own journey. Seeing someone change the trajectory of their life because of guidance I provided truly warmed my heart.
That experience inspired me to think bigger. I wanted to help not just a handful of people, but hundreds—and eventually thousands. That vision became the foundation for Middle Georgia Career Institute.
I founded Middle Georgia Career Institute to provide high‑quality postsecondary career training that equips students with the knowledge, confidence, and credentials needed to enter today’s workforce. Our programs are designed to prepare students for nationally recognized certification exams while also developing the practical skills employers are looking for. My goal has never been simply to help someone pass an exam—it’s to help them build lasting careers that create financial stability, professional growth, and new opportunities for themselves and their families.
Today, Middle Georgia Career Institute is proud to be an Approved Educator with AAPC, the nation’s leading organization for medical coding and healthcare business certifications. This approval reflects our commitment to delivering education that meets AAPC’s rigorous standards for curriculum quality, instructor expertise, and student preparation. As an Approved Educator, we offer training aligned with AAPC’s national competencies, ensuring our students are fully prepared to sit for certifications such as CPC, CPB, and other specialized credentials that open doors across the healthcare industry.
Looking ahead, Middle Georgia Career Institute is committed to expanding its impact even further. We are actively exploring the addition of new programs that address emerging workforce needs in healthcare, technology, and other high‑demand fields. Our goal is to continue growing in a way that provides more pathways, more opportunities, and more life‑changing career options for the communities we serve.
I continue to combine my healthcare expertise, technology background, and passion for education to help others realize that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a student earn a certification, land their first job, and recognize that one decision truly changed the course of their future. That remains the driving force behind everything I do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. The journey has been anything but smooth. One of the biggest challenges I faced was ensuring that Middle Georgia Career Institute met compliance in every area. Opening a school is not as simple as saying, “I am an expert in this topic, so let me open a school.” There are layers of regulations, approvals, and oversight from multiple boards and governing bodies. Each step requires precision, documentation, and a deep understanding of state and industry standards.
Navigating these requirements meant learning entire systems from the ground up, including educational compliance, curriculum standards, regulatory audits, institutional policies, and quality assurance processes. It was demanding and often overwhelming, but it also pushed me to build a school that was not just functional, but exceptional. Those systems, while challenging, are exactly what set Middle Georgia Career Institute apart today. They required me to create a strong foundation rooted in integrity, accountability, and excellence.
Another challenge was balancing the vision I had with the realities of entrepreneurship. There were moments of doubt, delays, and unexpected obstacles. Yet every challenge strengthened my commitment to creating a place where students could receive high quality, career focused education that truly changes lives.
Looking back, the road may not have been smooth, but it was necessary. Every hurdle shaped the institute into what it is today, a compliant, credible, and student centered institution that continues to grow, evolve, and serve the community with purpos
As you know, we’re big fans of Middle Georgia Career Institute LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Middle Georgia Career Institute is a postsecondary career training school created with one purpose in mind, to open doors for individuals who want a better career, a better income, and a better future. We specialize in preparing students for nationally recognized healthcare certifications, with a strong focus on medical coding and healthcare administration pathways.
One of our signature offerings is our Medical Coding Program. Students can become job ready medical coders in just four months through an instructor led program that is completely online. Even though the program is virtual, students meet live with their instructor, receive hands on support, and are guided step by step through the curriculum. Our instructors are deeply involved in each student’s success, and we take pride in offering a level of mentorship and accessibility that is rare in online education. Students also receive resume support, job search guidance, and access to a thriving community that encourages, motivates, and supports them long after the program ends.
We are also proud to be an Approved Educator with AAPC, the leading organization for medical coding and healthcare business certifications. This approval reflects our commitment to meeting high standards for curriculum quality, instructor expertise, and student preparation. It also ensures that our students are learning directly in alignment with national expectations and are fully prepared to sit for certifications such as the CPC and other AAPC credentials.
What sets Middle Georgia Career Institute apart is the level of care and intention behind everything we do. We are not a school that simply teaches content. We are a school that builds confidence, creates opportunity, and helps students reinvent themselves. Our programs are designed to be accessible, supportive, and career focused, and our brand is built on integrity, excellence, and genuine student success.
Brand wise, I am most proud of the trust we have earned. Students come to us because they know they will be supported, challenged, and prepared. They know they are not just enrolling in a program, they are joining a community that wants to see them win.
What I want readers to know is that Middle Georgia Career Institute is a place where transformation happens. Whether someone is starting over, stepping into a new field, or looking for a career that offers stability and growth, we provide the training, the guidance, and the encouragement to help them get there. Our mission is simple, to help people build careers that change their lives and the lives of their families.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me truly happy is seeing people step into a version of themselves they never thought was possible. There is something incredibly fulfilling about watching a student walk in with uncertainty and walk out with confidence, a certification, and a new sense of purpose. Knowing that I played even a small part in helping someone change their life brings me a joy that is hard to describe.
I am also happiest when I see the ripple effect of that transformation. When a student tells me they got the job, or they can finally provide more for their family, or they feel proud of themselves for the first time in a long time, it reminds me why I do this work. Those moments fuel me. They remind me that education is not just about skills, it is about hope, opportunity, and second chances.
On a personal level, I find happiness in peace, purpose, and alignment. When I am doing work that matters, when I am helping others grow, and when I am building something that will outlast me, I feel fulfilled. That is the kind of happiness that stays with you
