Hidden Gems: Meet Jennifer Wilson of Life of Travel Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Wilson.

Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I wasn’t always a travel advisor. I had a predictable career as a dental hygienist. However, after about 10 years of dental practice, I felt like I was missing out on so much life living by the repetitive schedule of dentistry. So, I decided to make a U-turn and look for something completely different that offered a more “out of the box” approach to work + life balance. After a family vacation to Turks + Caicos, we were having dinner with some friends that also work in the travel industry, reminiscing about how fantastic our trip was. My friend looked at me and said “I’ve got someone you need to meet. You should be a travel advisor!” It was a light bulb moment. Shortly after, I met our agency owner, worked through the training program and never looked back.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building a business that feels solid is always a work in progress, especially at the beginning. How will I get new clients? Will they return for another trip? How can I continue to build trust? Are my systems adequate?

There is a constant reel of questions and uncertainties that, if you let them, can plague the mind. The struggles can come if you let them dominate and impede your forward progress.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in Southern California and we used to camp at San Clemente State Beach every summer. I remember the long days playing in the sand, eating snacks from the cool box and staying out at the beach until the sun dipped below the horizon. It was magic.
