Today we’d like to introduce you to Lea Camp.
Hi Lea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It wasn’t a single event that created Sweet Peach Weddings. Instead, it was years of working for a bridal store + jewelry store and planning their fashion shows, being in charge of an entire sorority’s social events, being an overly organized teacher and planning school-wide dances + staff events, planning my own wedding, helping dear friends plan their weddings and a lot of other tiny events in between. Finally, Sweet Peach was born thanks to a very persuasive and trusting bride + groom in May 2017.
Since May of 2017, Sweet Peach has kept busy fully planning weddings, coordinating even more wedding days, hosting vendor showcases + wedding expos, and even planning wedding showers, baby showers, bachelorette parties, and a wedding Olympics event. Sweet Peach has been incredibly busy growing over the past couple of years. It’s currently flourishing from a fun hobby into a full-fledged career. To say I’m excited would be the understatement of the year; my dreams are literally coming true over here.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely wouldn’t call this path “smooth.” Don’t get me wrong; I’ve been incredibly blessed. The most trusting couples, amazing wedding vendors, and my extra supportive family have always pushed me, believed in me, and kept this sweet little business growing.
Sweet Peach Weddings was originally a partnership, but about a year into the process, my partner and I realized we had different ideas of what the future of Sweet Peach looked like. I had a vision of creating a career, and my partner loved the hobby that it was at the time. She and I decided to part ways as business partners but have always kept our friendship a priority.
Let’s not even talk about what COVID did to the entire wedding world in 2020. I went from planning to step away from my teaching career to realizing very quickly that I needed to stay a little longer since 80% of my booked weddings postponed or cancelled.
I was also blessed with a sweet surprise of finding out I was pregnant with my second daughter. Naturally, she was going to be due at the beginning of October. If you’re in the wedding business, you know what October means. Thankfully I had a second coordinator fully trained before then, which allowed me to focus on my growing family.
There are many tiny moments that come to mind, but isn’t that all a part of the process? When this business began to make a name for itself, I knew there would be challenges, and I continue to do my best to head them off as well as roll with each punch. The events in the Sweet Peach story haven’t slowed down any progress but instead have offered so much growth and even more opportunities to continue making wedding day dreams come true.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Sweet Peach Weddings is a wedding planning/coordinating business. Our philosophy is simple: Create a stress-free and memorable wedding day as unique as the couples we work with. We focus on the smallest of details to ensure a seamless and captivating experience.
We offer a variety of services specific to each couple’s individual needs. We can assist in any part of the planning process, no matter how far along they are. Our goal is to make a wedding day as dreamy, stress-free, and fun as you could possibly imagine.
We also customize our packages to fit any budget and need; no two weddings are the same. There’s no request too big or too small. At past weddings, we have had to spread 20 bags of mulch to save a tented reception from becoming a complete mud pit, take over catering services when the caterers didn’t leave servers, announce reception introductions and events, find enough sparklers for a wedding send off when they never arrived, and more. What it comes down to is that we are completely dedicated to making sure our couples have the best day ever and will do what it takes to make that happen.
As a business owner, I’m most proud of growth we continue to show and the relationships we have built with our couples. I love that I still talk with many of our brides and grooms, meet past Sweet Peach couples for drinks, and have reasons to continue celebrating each of life’s seasons with them.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been assertive, compassionate, organized, and interested in helping people. I wouldn’t say that wedding coordinating was on my list of what I wanted to be when I grew up. It’s kind of like the job I never knew I needed or wanted. Being a teacher topped that list, but I now see that the same qualities that drew me into the teaching profession are the same qualities that allows my heart to be on fire for wedding planning and coordinating.
