Hidden Gems: Meet SHEmeka Maddox of She Finds Success

Today we’d like to introduce you to SHEmeka Maddox.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The decision to step away from my Downtown Atlanta childcare facility in 2019 was a leap of faith for me after 17 years as a childcare owner/director.  In my mind I kept thinking that there must be more to life. It was several years ago that I attended a childcare summit that changed my life forever. The summit left me with two things: a blueprint for scaling a seven-figure childcare facility and a vision to launch a seven-figure childcare coaching company. I would never have imagined that a person who had never owned a childcare facility could build a powerful community to empower childcare leaders. Suddenly I realized that if the founder of the childcare summit could do it without childcare experience, so could I.

The summit inspired me to start my own childcare coaching business one year later. By sharing my past failures, stories, and experience with childcare professionals, I acquired clients immediately. Although I was able to run a profitable childcare coaching business and a profitable childcare center simultaneously, I had difficulties managing both.

In the wake of the pandemic, childcare owners scrambled to sustain their childcare centers as essential workers. I was nearing the end of my 10-year lease at my childcare center, but my landlord rejected my offer to purchase the building. At that point I had invested 1,256,000 in a building that I would never own. I was grateful for having made millions from that building and the investment taught me so many things that I could only gain from the experience. Having made the difficult decision to permanently close my childcare center, I decided to focus on helping other childcare owners build 7-figure childcare centers with systems designed to eliminate burnout, retain and build staff retention, foster parent involvement, and generate revenue.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This was not an easy journey at first. During my 18 years in childcare, I invested thousands of dollars in leadership training. After I mastered several 7-figures in my childcare business, I still believed there was greatness inside of me, and I wanted to create an environment where childcare owners can thrive and make multiple 6- and even 7-figures without sacrificing their lives or families.

Most national and state organizations assist you with leadership in your business, but not at a personal level. You opened a childcare center to be free and make a difference, but you ended up feeling trapped, overwhelmed, and exhausted without the right leadership. In childcare, I was faced with fierce competition, I struggled to find a supportive sisterhood that was authentic. I wanted to grow, connect, and belong.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The challenges of owning a childcare business are among the toughest and most challenging in life. In spite of this, the payoff can be significant when all the pieces come together as we hope and dream they will. Learning to stand on the shoulders of giants is a little-known lesson that many people who are self-employed don’t learn quickly enough.

This is the purpose of the She Finds Success Community. Truthfully, it doesn’t seem that long ago that I was working my heart out in my own business, giving everything I had – being a mother, being a wife, being an entrepreneur – without being able to push through the low-income 4-figure months. It didn’t make sense to me. It was frustrating, confusing, exhausting, and I often felt alone. It made me wonder if I was good enough.

Fast-forward to today, and I’m proud to have consistently replaced my annual income with my monthly income in my business. The difference? I got help. But not just any help. I got the right help from the right mentors, who gave me the right blueprint for where I was at that time, and from there, I was able to transform my entire business, but most importantly, I was able to transform my family’s life. The moment I got help, everything changed.

I work with childcare owners around the world who are ambitious, skilled, dedicated to helping others but aren’t necessarily reaping the rewards. Having personally trained and developed a small and specialized team, I help childcare owners succeed by walking alongside them shoulder-to-shoulder and giving them the support, structure, and network that they need in order to succeed.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I invite childcare owners to take advantage of my complimentary strategy session. It might just be the most meaningful conversation you’ve had in a long while.

We believe in you and your greatness. Very few people who have succeeded in business have done so by themselves, manning the trenches of business all alone. “Self-made” is very rarely an accurate title which as you probably know, gets thrown around a lot. Real success in business is undeniably down to an entrepreneur’s ability to connect with the right communities, mentors and coaches who can help them fill the gaps that they themselves often don’t realize exist. Our goal is to ensure She Finds Success.
