Hi Sumer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always wanted to help people. I’ve been told that I have a healing energy. People in need have always found me and if I could, I have always helped. Helping people and being a solid support system and or village has always been a fundamental part of my DNA. Unfortunately, I am squeamish when it comes to blood, but I did eventually find my niche. Changes in life caused me to not pursue the legal profession I adore, but circumstance allowed me to find a new passion to place my energy. By profession, I am Human Resources Specialist, a Recruiter to be exact, but by passion, I am resume writer and HR consultant. I truly thrive in educating my clients, my community, and professionals alike on the best practices of pursuing and advancing their career. But, how did I get here? How did I figure it out? In 2018, I was at a crossroads in my own career. I wasn’t happy or passionate about the work I was doing, and I wasn’t being appreciated or utilized in the way I felt I should be. I had so much to offer, but my growth was being stunted. I initially blamed it on the organization, but the real culprit was me. I was scared to transition. Scared to make a move within the unknown. Fortunately, I was catapulted into the unknown with a swift change in my employment status. I analyzed, I prayed, and then I took a leap of faith.
My true passion is helping people, so I how do I help people and still survive. Passion alone doesn’t suffice when bills come due. I am a member of a natural hair group on social media and in one of my interaction, I met two knowledgeable women. They both wrote resumes and helped others create a living, breathing documents to display their accomplishments within their career. I reached out and the rest is history. In just three short years, Seasoned Resumes by Sumer, my passion-project, became the success you see today. Yes, there are several resume writing service, but none of them sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning to creating a lasting impression that moves careers to the next level. I treat every client like family and I take a real interest in their success and progression. I am truly honored to be included and influence my client’s professional career journey.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I chucked at “smooth road.” If you can find an entrepreneur who had a smooth road to success, I want their name. Please mentor me. This journey has been bumpy. I’m a professional, so I will stick with bumpy. In the progression to Mysrbs.com, I have dealt with business break-ups and continual change. I grieved the loss of my business partners, but I found solace in the greatness I knew was waiting for me. Some people are only around for a season, but if you’re smart, you will learn, absorb, and implement the best qualities around you. If you haven’t learned something from every situation, then you aren’t experiencing life. In this journey, I found my footing. I have the opportunity to really evaluate who I am as a person and professional and help other avoid some of the struggles I endured. I am blessed to have a village of hustler in my corner, with wisdom and experience I can tap into at any given moment.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
This sounds so clique, but it is true in every sense. “Closed mouths, don’t get fed.” Your mentor is out there, but they don’t know you need help. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Your dreams are worth pursuing. Join those Facebook groups. Follow your favorite influencer on social media. Send them that message on LinkedIn. I found my mentors because I spoke up. I decided that I was tired of making someone else’s dream a success. I can do the same work and make my dream a success. What truly worked well for me was acknowledging that with all my degrees and experience, I still didn’t have the right answer. Truly realizing that my village couldn’t support me if they didn’t know I needed support. My advise… take the leap of faith. You may not see the big picture initially, but eventually the picture will become clear. When you speak up, you will find the right people to have in your corner and support you each step of the way. The worst someone can say is no. I promise you will hear no more often than you think, and eventually it won’t discourage you but instead motivate you. The “Yes” is right around the corner, but the true question is… Do you want it? If so, don’t stop until around the corner arrives and you hear your first “Yes” !
