Hidden Gems: Meet Summer Yang of Nails_summeryang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Yang.

Summer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I first entered the industry in 2012, working part-time in high-end Manhattan salons and even styling nails for celebrities. But back then, the trends were repetitive and, honestly, boring. I didn’t enjoy it because there was no room for true creativity. I left, but when I returned in 2020, the landscape had completely changed—it was finally a time when fun, intricate nail art was being embraced. That’s when I fell in love with the craft again.
When I went solo in 2024, I started with zero clients, but I wasn’t scared for a single day. I had absolute confidence in the quality of my work. I knew that once a client sat in my chair and saw the precision and artistry, they would stay. Because of that belief and my dedication to the craft, it only took me four months to go from an empty schedule to being completely booked out.
My focus is primarily on Korean and Japanese nail art, which requires incredible attention to detail and structure. For me, creating these sets isn’t just a job or a business transaction; it’s genuinely like a form of therapy. I truly enjoy every single set I create, and I think clients feel that positive energy when they are in my studio.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle was realizing that going solo meant becoming a full-time content creator alongside being a nail artist.
Juggling the algorithms, editing videos, and managing bookings while trying to maintain a healthy work-life balance has been a major learning curve. You have to learn when to step back and protect your own peace.

We’ve been impressed with Nails_summeryang, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an Atlanta-based nail artist specializing in Japanese and Korean nail art, luxury structured sets, and intricate 3D designs. Known on TikTok as @nails_summeryang, Brand-wise, I am most proud of my upcoming evolution: this late August , I am officially launching my own premium nail product line, GeliGeli.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me, social media has been the ultimate networking tool.
