Today we’d like to introduce you to Zander Knight.
Hi Zander, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As an Atlanta native, I’ve always wanted to leave my mark on the city by providing something that people simply can’t find anywhere else. I’ve always believed that if you’re going to build something, it should feel intentional, memorable, and offer a level of quality that people remember long after it’s over. That mindset, combined with my love for numbers and business, is what led me to pursue a finance degree while beginning my entrepreneurial journey.
During college, I naturally became a person bringing people together, hosting parties that were open for everyone to enjoy. Between those events and being involved in many local business dealings, I built a trusted reputation and a strong network throughout Atlanta. As that grew, several club DJs approached me about becoming a promoter. After telling a friend about this, who is now a trusted coworker, he asked me a question that completely shifted my perspective: Why put your energy, relationships, and ability to draw a crowd into someone else’s vision when you’ve already proven you can build your own?
Less than a month later, at just 20 years old, we launched the first event under what would become Core Entertainment. It was a Halloween concert featuring Roscoe Dash. Financially, it was a disaster. We lost way more than I’m even comfortable saying. But in hindsight, it was one of the best investments we ever made because it taught us lessons that no classroom or mentor could have. That night solidified our passion for event curation and showed us exactly what we wanted to build.
Less than three years later, Core Entertainment has welcomed more than 15,000 attendees across concerts, festivals, and nightlife experiences throughout Atlanta. We’ve worked with artists ranging from Lil Yachty and DRAM to Glokk40spaz and LazerDim700, hosted events at some of Atlanta’s most recognizable venues, and built partnerships with organizations ranging from local businesses to the City of Atlanta and the Mayor’s Office of Film, Entertainment & Nightlife.
Today, our mission is to elevate Atlanta nightlife by creating experiences that are creative, credible, reliable, inclusive, and thoughtfully curated. We don’t just want to host events; we want to shape culture, introduce people to opportunities they may never have found otherwise, and continue raising the standard for what people expect when they walk through our doors. If people leave saying, “I’ve never experienced anything quite like that,” then we’ve accomplished exactly what we set out to do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been FAR from a smooth road, and honestly, I think that’s why we’ve grown as quickly as we have. Every stage of this journey has introduced a new set of challenges that forced us to adapt.
In our first year alone, we lost more than $50,000 while learning the realities of the industry. We’ve dealt with production failures, last-minute permit issues, difficult artists and management teams, agencies, brands, venues, and even the challenge of managing customer expectations when people don’t always understand everything that goes into producing a live event.
One of the biggest realities people don’t see is the financial side of entertainment. Artist-driven events are incredibly difficult to make profitable without strong sponsorship support, and as young entrepreneurs, there were times when our age caused people to underestimate us or take advantage of our lack of experience. Beyond the events themselves, we were learning how to build a real company; from business licensing and accounting to contracts, insurance, and investing in professional marketing methods.
Looking back, every mistake was tuition. We paid for our education through experience instead of a textbook.
My team has a saying that keeps us grounded: “As long as an event presents new problems, and we’re not repeating old ones, then we’re moving in the right direction.” Problems are inevitable in this business. Growth comes from solving a new challenge each time and making sure yesterday’s mistakes never become tomorrow’s habits.
As you know, we’re big fans of Core Entertainment . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Core Entertainment specializes in event curation across Atlanta’s nightlife and live entertainment scene. At its core, we see ourselves as innovators within the culture; focused on creating experiences that are memorable, inclusive, community-driven, and rooted in opportunity. While we produce parties, concerts, festivals, and community-based events, what connects everything we do is intention. Every event is designed to feel purposeful, not just populated.
What sets Core apart is our commitment to continuously raising the standard of what events in Atlanta can look and feel like. We’ve built strong, hard-earned relationships across the city that allow us to consistently work with top-tier venues, talent, and creative partners. Just as importantly, we operate on reciprocity: we show love to the people and communities that have supported us from the beginning, and that energy has carried through every stage of our growth.
Some of our proudest moments include our collaboration on a 404 Day festival with the Mayor’s Office of Film, Entertainment & Nightlife, where we helped transform and shut down the streets in front of City Hall to produce a fully public, free festival featuring a large-scale stage production, activations, and local vendors. That event represented exactly what Core stands for; accessibility, culture, and community on a city-wide level.
We’re also proud of the consistency we’ve built around our flagship experiences. Our New Year’s Eve events have grown into large-scale productions reaching up to 4,000 attendees, and our annual Halloween celebration, the origin of Core, has grown into a signature event with up to 2,000 attendees each year.
More than anything, we want readers to understand that Core isn’t just about nightlife. It’s about building moments that bring people together, introduce them to new experiences, and continue pushing Atlanta’s creative scene forward. We don’t just participate in the culture; we aim to elevate it every time we step into a space.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I don’t know if I have one single favorite childhood memory, but what stands out most is how active and outside-oriented I was growing up. I was always outside playing with kids in the neighborhood. Football, basketball, riding bikes, or group games like manhunt and air-soft. It was a very free environment, and I was constantly moving around with different groups of kids and even different ages, sometimes ending up miles away from where I started without thinking twice.
At the same time, a big part of my childhood was my family. I grew up as the youngest and the only boy of three sisters, and I actually loved that dynamic. I always enjoyed being around my close family, whether it was playing games, being competitive, or just spending mindless time at home. Those moments made me very comfortable being social, adaptable, and always around people, which I think carried into who I am today.
Looking back, I think that mix of constant community outside and close family at home is what naturally shaped how I move through the world now.
