Indie Johnson of West End on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Indie Johnson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Indie, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes. Not only am I sincere but I put my best foot forward everyday, doing my best to improve myself, systems, and create better quality experiences for my guest. Im also very attuned to others needs and make space when needed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Indie Johnson, and I’m the Founder and Creative Director of The Harvest Cabaret. At its heart, The Harvest Cabaret is a space where performance, storytelling, and community meet—we celebrate artistry in all its forms while creating experiences that are immersive, soulful, and unforgettable.

What makes our work unique is the way we weave together different disciplines—music, dance, theater, and visual storytelling—into one vibrant expression. Beyond the stage, we also create workshops in performance, culinary arts, and carpentry, guided by a mission of economic empowerment, food sovereignty, and cultural movements that center justice for marginalized voices.

My journey has always been guided by curiosity, creativity, and a love for bringing people together. Right now, I’m focused on building the next chapter of The Harvest Cabaret: expanding our shows, collaborating with new artists, and developing projects that honor both tradition and innovation.

The Harvest Cabaret is more than a brand—it’s a living, breathing experience that invites people to step into wonder, beauty, and imagination while helping build a more just and sustainable future.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
God saw me and loved me before I understood what love was. Taught me how to love myself when I thought the world hated me. God loved me first and everything I do is to honor my connection to the divine.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear that someone would physically harm me because of who I am- my gender presentation. I overcame it by teaching myself bodily autonomy and standing in my power. Now, I fear no one because I understand who I am and what I am capable of.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
Absolutely everything that is not organic living matter is made up from the mind of humans. And since everything is made up, we have the power to make up new things and live in a world that has yet to exist.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
A new world where women, femmes, trans and nonbinary people and children live freely and autonomously without fear of patriarchy, oppression and harm from men. I’m building this regardless of immortality.
