Today we’d like to introduce you to Ajené Edwards.
Hi Ajené, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story is a little interesting. I am originally from Oakland, CA. I moved out to Atlanta after graduating from Florida A&M University. I started off as an off shore medical student. I was in love with all things medicine. Then adversity struck when I couldn’t compete my matriculation in school. I was completely lost, had no idea what to do with a career I was embarking upon coming to an end. When I came back to the United States, I was scrambling to find a job and couldn’t land a decent job. I had completely hit rock bottom. Outside of family issues, I knew I had to find a way out of my mental funk. My goal was to go back to medical school by any and all positively influenced ways. I ended up getting connected with a few positive people at the time. I dabbled in real estate in college, so I knew I had a backup plan. I was always loved watching HGTV and wanted to help people with a passion. I wasn’t sure it would give me the same thrill as medicine. I had a meeting with my friend at the time and came up with the plan to get my real estate license. Took the class passed with no problems however when it came to the state exam, I gave every excuse there was to give for not passing on the first try. Finally, I got my license! Although I rarely express my excitement outwardly, I was ecstatic, I couldn’t believe it! Fast forward to now, I am a top producer in the state of Georgia, doing what I love which is helping families achieve something they didn’t know was possible at one point in their lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always obstacles in life, the joy is in the journey. Working as an entrepreneur is no easy task at all. A lot of the struggles I faced were mental. Making the decision to work for myself was a new challenge that I was up for, I just didn’t know everything that came with it. No one tells you that part of the journey. I realized that mindset is everything and when I first started real estate, I did not have the mindset for it. Doing work, lots of work and not getting paid for it on Friday was honestly the weirdest thing I had experienced. Learning something new after changing my passion from one spectrum of helping individuals to the opposite end of the spectrum of helping. It was an interesting Challenging. Coming into to real estate with this tough market and having deals fall apart was super challenging. Having my village backing me up really helped me navigate the challenges.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a realtor specializing in first-time home buying and Military relocation. I am most known for building lasting rapport with my clients. I grasp very quickly what my clients are looking for in a home and work effortlessly to get them what they often call their dream homes. I worked in the hospitality industry for years throughout high school and college so I used my customer service skills to cultivate the understanding necessary to effectively get families into homes. Those skills along with just being me have set me apart from others. I tried to be someone else I wanted to be just like my mentor and boy, oh boy the person I became was not someone I wanted to be around. Just being me most definitely sets me apart.
Growing my brand since the time I started my rest estate career and branching off on my own was one of the biggest highlights. In 2020, I went from $600K in volume to $4.5 Million in just seven months. I was absolutely afraid to go out on my own with no guidance, no mentor, and the training I had taken in my post-license course. Marathon Realty, LLC is for the people, those that feel like achieving their goals are impossible. I understand the home buying process, it’s a very scary decision to make, and I treat it in that manner. I treat all of my clients as though that are vip guests at their favorite resort. They gain a lifelong realtor, business consultant, and a friend. Whether it’s fixing your credit, setting up your business properly, or buying or selling a home, I am a one stop shop.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
First and foremost, the bible is my pillar. I am also reading The four agreements, this helps me understand a lot about life. Things that help me be my best in life are protecting my peace. I allowed someone to control my emotions for many years which then turned into depression. I started reading more and finding my inner peace. I remember there was a time I didn’t like reading physical books now I can’t wait to go the bookstore to see what’s new.
