Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Brandenburg
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After moving to Atlanta in 2012 for a job in technology sales. I felt all the challenges of transplanting to a new city. A fundamental challenge was meeting new people and finding community. Playing volleyball in college, I had a team to celebrate wins with and lean on when times were challenging – without that, I found myself struggling.
As a lifelong believer in the benefits of movement, I soon discovered group fitness which provided not only the mental and physical benefits of exercise, but also team and community once again. Seeing the same faces day in and out, and building relationships with instructors provided a sense of home and belonging.
Fast forward 10 years, when my husband and I moved to the suburbs north of Atlanta, the first thing I began to miss was the workouts.
Last year, while pregnant with my first daughter, I was caught up in the mass wave of technology layoffs. During that time, I was looking for the next chapter in my career. I had taken BODYROK classes at their San Francisco studios, while in town for previous travel for work. I was drawn to the intensity, yet low impact style of the workouts and wanted to bring that to the suburbs of North Atlanta. I drove to the closest BODYROK at the time, in Nashville, tried the workout again, and knew I had fallen in love.
Coming home from the Nashville trip, I reached out to BODYROK to inquire about the territory north of Atlanta. Leaning on my corporate experience and MBA, I built an initial business plan. Although I knew I wanted to do this, I also knew it would be a huge pivot from my prior career.
Taking a few weeks to refine and validate the plan, I began reaching out to contacts in fitness and real estate to do more research. In each conversation as additional questions were raised, I became more confident the north Atlanta suburbs were in need of, and would support, this kind of workout and the community it would foster.
Quickly it all fell into place, I signed the franchise agreement and a lease for our first location at Southern Post off Canton Street. I’m beyond excited to announce we are targeted to open this September! The surrounding community has been so welcoming to us and we cannot wait to continue building relationships.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have not officially opened yet, so I know the challenges are just beginning! So far, the biggest learnings have been going through the construction process, figuring out architects, permitting, and all the other legal parts of getting the business set up and off the ground.
The most exciting part of opening a studio and going through this process so far has definitely been getting to know other business owners in the community and learning from their experiences. Having the opportunity to lean on others going through similar challenges or who have been there before continues to be incredibly valuable and I know will only continue to help as we open and the challenges morph and change.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about BODYROK ROSWELL?
BODYROK is a boutique fitness studio specializing in Pilates-style reformer workouts, we think of it as pilates re-designed.
We offer 45 minute, low impact, high intensity, pilates inspired strength classes on our custom BODYROK reformers (think an amped-up classical reformer). One thing we do differently is an emphasis on flow, keeping our transitions fluid and quick to add an element of conditioning to the strength and flexibility of traditional Pilates.
Each day has a different theme based on the body parts we are hitting the hardest, while still providing a balanced full body workout every time you come in. This is another positively differentiating factor, allowing our members to plan for and ensure they are getting the most focus in the places they want.
Our studio is beautiful and modern, with unique lighting and great music all aimed at allowing each member to get their best workout. Most importantly, when walking in, you’ll step into a caring community and team that cannot wait to meet you.
Our classes are small, capped at 16 people, allowing us to get to know our clients and their specific goals to support them on their fitness journey. The familiarity between instructor and member allows us to cater to all levels, beginner to advanced. Our instructors guide you providing individual verbal cues and manual adjustments ensuring a safe and effective workout.
Whether it’s your first class or your five-hundredth, the workout is challenging, but that’s the point!
