Inspiring Conversations with Anne Mason of Anne Mason Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Mason

Anne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. Many know Memphis to be a big music city, but it is also famous for its unique visual arts scene. All of this creativity inspired me to be an artist myself and by the time I was in high school, I had been experimenting with art mediums of all kinds. I was very excited to attend Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) for my Bachelor’s degree, where I majored in Industrial Design and minored in Graphic Design. After graduation I quickly moved to Atlanta, GA and become an Industrial Designer for Altium, one of the largest packaging manufacturers (and recyclers!) in the country.

While I loved being an Industrial Designer, I had a yearning for a change of scenery. I applied to SCAD Atlanta’s Interior Design Masters program and launched a brand new career path. After many late nights and two years of hard work, I was hired by Niles Bolton Associates, one of the top architecture firms in Atlanta. Over the next five years I loved working on corporate offices, multifamily complexes, government offices, private aviation terminals, and non-profit projects, both as renovations and new builds.

After becoming a fully licensed interior designer in 2023, I began to feel a pull to work with individuals and smaller scaled companies. This led me to opening my own firm, Anne Mason Design (AMD) this past March. I now proudly help individuals and businesses discover creative solutions to their spaces, no matter the project size. The main philosophy behind AMD is to deliver a high level of design to clients of all budgets. Many believe that Interior Designers are a luxury, but that does not have to be the case. The spaces we inhabit play an integral role in our daily lives and mental health, and I believe that everyone deserves to have access to that peace.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am very thankful to say that – so far – it has been a smooth journey. Just like any new business, word of mouth is crucial while building your rolodex. My friends and family have worked hard to spread the word about AMD and that has really supported me in these first few months. I will forever be grateful for their support!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Anne Mason Design?
Anne Mason Design (AMD) is a full-service interior design firm that works on both residential and small commercial projects. In the past few months since our launch, we have already worked with many home owners, restaurant owners, corporate businesses, and law firms to develop beautiful interiors.

As a licensed interior designer I have a deep appreciation for aesthetics and trends, but I also understand the importance of function when it comes to people’s individual spaces. No two people have the exact same needs, so it’s important to approach each project with a completely new mindset and willingness to learn about my clients as individuals. Completing deep dives on their existing lifestyles ultimately helps me to discover the best solutions for them. Most people believe they know what they need, but a lot of the time we at AMD are able to discover new solutions that the client either didn’t know they needed or never thought they could have. The focus on function and contextual research is unique to AMD, and stems directly from my Industrial Design background. This personalized process is what I’m most proud of as a designer.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The most important part of any project is the happiness and satisfaction of my clients. Many designers forget that the interiors we design are for our clients, not our portfolios. Most clients just want a beautiful space that they’re proud of and feel comfortable in. Working closely with individuals and giving them the best design for their current lifestyles is truly what matters most to me.
