Today we’d like to introduce you to Ansley Jacobson.
Ansley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve loved all things beauty. I remember spending hours playing with my dolls—cutting their hair, styling it, and having the most fun doing so. As I grew up, I was always the friend who would happily spend time getting everyone else ready for events before myself, simply because it fueled my soul. That joy slowly grew into a passion.
I began my journey at a university, but everything changed during a hair appointment with a friend. Sitting there, I felt an undeniable pull—an instant knowing that I wanted to be the one behind the chair, creating confidence and beauty for others. I left university to attend cosmetology school, and nearly six years later, after starting as a receptionist and assistant and working my way up, I’m now living out my dream as a business owner
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, starting a career like this comes with its challenges. Building something entirely from the ground up requires an immense amount of motivation, time, and drive—especially when you’re starting from zero and working to build a loyal clientele. Cosmetology school itself was one of my biggest hurdles. It wasn’t the learning that challenged me most, but the personal struggles that came along with that season, and I had to dig deep and push through.
I’m incredibly grateful to have begun my career in a salon that truly encouraged growth and supported the kind of hands-on learning every baby stylist needs. As I wrap up my first year as a business owner, I can honestly say I’ve learned more than I ever imagined. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been more than worth it.
We’ve been impressed with Shear Faith Hair Studio , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
One of my favorite things about this industry is the ability to truly focus on what I love most. I have a deep passion for lived-in color, blonding, and especially extensions. I strive to customize every look so it aligns perfectly with each client’s personal style, lifestyle, maintenance needs, and budget—because great hair should feel effortless and realistic for everyday life.
Just as important as the hair is the connection. I take pride in building genuine, personal relationships with my clients, creating an experience that feels welcoming and intentional rather than rushed. I’m incredibly grateful for the clientele I’ve grown and truly consider them more like friends.
The name of my business, Shear Faith Hair Studio, brings me joy every single day. My faith is a core part of who I am and plays a meaningful role in how I approach both life and my work. It has guided me throughout my journey and continues to be a key part of how I show up behind the chair
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Success in this industry is about so much more than just being skilled with hair. Exceptional customer service is key—you have to make every client feel welcome, comfortable, and confident in your care. I focus on clear communication throughout each appointment so my clients know exactly what’s happening. Hair is deeply personal, and I understand how nerve-racking a visit can feel, so I strive to make the experience as reassuring and enjoyable as possible.
Equally important is the drive to keep learning. Trends are always evolving, techniques are constantly changing, and there’s always a new look or service clients are excited about. Staying curious, adaptable, and committed to growth is what keeps me at the top of my game—and ensures every client leaves feeling their absolute best
