Inspiring Conversations with Ciera Young of Recycled Energy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciera Young.

Hi Ciera , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Life has a funny way of revealing your purpose. After graduating with my bachelor’s from Coastal Carolina University in 2010, I was heading a completely different direction, but after I had my daughters, things changed. After experiencing postpartum depression and publishing my first book in 2018, I realize that my purpose was bigger. I not only was responsible for my own healing so that I could tap into my full potential, but I found that my journey was helping others do this same. This led me to talking about my own experience and then on the pursuing my master’s degree to gain the knowledge and skills to help other in addition to my own life experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road? What is that! (laughs) Absolutely not. Entering the mental health field presented challenges from the beginning. Navigating pursuing a degree, while running a business and being a full-time mom was not easy by any means. I always had to remember what the goal was so that I could continue to push through. I experienced a lot of losses, life changes, and challenges that really could have broken me down, but it added to my story and motivated me to keep going. I really had to learn and understand what balance was for me and find that to stay focused on the goal. Even now, post-graduation, there are barriers, however I am using my creative abilities to navigate them in a way that I can best serve my clients as well as grow as an individual.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Recycled Energy is a mental health service provider that offers authentic, relatable, and transparent mental health services that lead to healing and activating your dopeness.

We offer a variety of services including individual and group sessions, consulting services, and availability for speaking engagements. In additional to these services, the focus is taking the conversation of mental health Beyond the White Couch™.

Beyond the White Couch™ is a movement that creates awareness, provides education, and fosters dialogue about mental health issues from an individual, community, and societal aspect. This movement brings light to issues that are often “swept under the rug.” Taking the conversation Beyond the White Couch increases self-awareness, on an emotional and mental level, which then teaches us how to effectively communicate, how to have self-control, and how to operate in a healthy capacity. The work of healing is done not just through one-on-one sessions but really showing up in the work differently and being intentional about your mental health every day.

The combination of authenticity, transparency, and relatability, along with my personal and professional experience, gives “Homegirl Vibes,” which sets Recycled Energy apart from others. I can be myself, without the definition of professionalism that society has defined, meet people where they are in their journey, and help them get to where they want to be.

When working with Recycled Energy, you learn how to disrobe from the titles you have, unpack your emotional baggage, and rebrand your life to create Your Life Aesthetics, which is the life you desire and deserve.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The vibes are just dope! I feel that Atlanta as a whole has so many opportunities to grow and network and gives dreams a sense of hope to become reality. I feel that it’s so big and diverse and doesn’t limit you to what you can do. I would def say my least favorite thing about the city is traffic. I am not a fan at all.
