Inspiring Conversations with Darwynn McPherson of Darwynn Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darwynn McPherson.

Hi Darwynn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a military veteran who went to school at Virginia State University for computer engineering. I was influenced by my parents to choose this field because of the money, but they never asked me what I loved doing or enjoy as a passion. After graduating, I worked in the field for about two years and slowly started to become more in tune with movies and cameras. All oft childhood till now I lived in the movie theaters, always excited about box office releases. Then one day, it dawned on me. I began to understand my passion and that is seeing stories come to life. So I began buying camera equipment and shooting random projects for friends and family. After seeing how good I became at videography and how fun it was, I’ve decided to start Darwynn Films LLC. Me and my wife wanted to hit the ground running so we bought a house in Georgia and relocated to Northern, VA. We’ve been in GA since May of this year and haven’t quite started running just yet, however, I did not let that stop the grind.

I’ve been able to use film in other ways to continue my passion by launching a film review channel called “The Trailer Tailor Reviews,” a podcast network called “Concur Entertainment”, which currently hosts “The Groomsmen Show” along with soon to launch “onTEN The Podcast.” The hardest thing to achieve is getting others to buy into your dream. Me and my wife began to recognize that once you become an entrepreneur and start your growth, friends and family are the worst supporters. Those whom you expect to push you forward are not even interested. Idk if it’s the black community or what. I don’t let that stop me, I just continue to grind and discover more networks that have the same dreams as myself. My younger brother DJ DUREL is a producer and DJ for the “Migos” so perhaps soon he will put me in front of people who can put me in the right places.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggles: Weddings because most people getting married are of the white race and usually when you hire people your gonna be biased to people you can relate to. Black people are not getting married so much like they used to which makes it hard for me in that area. Also, they want to see previous work so for someone who has never done any work in weddings can be very difficult.

Getting friends and family to support my dreams is #1 struggle. I have over 3000 people I know and I’m only able to maintain about 20 views during live podcasts which has just started in June. I want to grow organically but that seems very difficult.

It’s going to get better over time. I launched my podcast in June so I just have to be patient. As far as weddings I’ll have to get lucky to book one,

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Darwynn Films LLC?
Small veterans-owned, black-owned business that specializes in event cinematography along with live podcasts. I also do photography. Music, Documentary, Weddings, Short films, etc. I can do just about anything with a camera and I have to get thanks to the Full-time Filmmaker course provided by Parker Walbeck of UT. I am mostly known for being a part of military basketball associations and on to the now-growing podcast called “The Groomsmen Show” as the host named @BRUIZZR. I am most proud of my flexibility to reposition myself from videography to content creation which is my YouTube network called “Concur Entertainment” and “The Trailer Tailor Reviews.” I am in ATL and the moment, searching for talented models, artists, strippers, etc. Pretty much anyone who is out here grinding and willing to sit down and interview about the hard work and struggle they experience on a day-to-day basis. This will be provide media that I will also use under my network as media exposure in the program.
