Today we’d like to introduce you to Jiseong Jo.
Hi Jiseong, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Beginning of a Journey
– Master Jiseong Jo’s Taekwondo journey began in 1990, in South Korea-at just 4 years old. A shy and quiet child, he was introduced to Taekwondo by his father to build confidence and strength. That small step grew into a lifelong mission-now inspiring students and families here in the U.S.
Grateful for the Journey of Growth
– Master Jiseong Jo majored in Taekwondo at CHOSUN University, where he served as captain of the demonstration team and had many valuable experiences. There, he developed leadership, confidence, and respect-core values he now teaches through Taekwondo.
A Calling to Teach and Inspire
– Since 2011, Master Jiseong Jo has been sharing the value of Taekwondo as a dedicated instructor in the United States.
Teaching has become more than a role-it is his calling to guide students toward confidence, respect, and growth.
Trained by a Master, Inspired to Lead
– Master Jo studied Taekwondo under Grandmaster Sun Ki Chong, one of the most respected Taekwondo teachers in the country. In the 1970s, he won three consecutive national sparring championships in Korea. He later moved to the U.S., where he became the Head Coach of the U.S. National Team and founded World Class Taekwondo.
Following a Legacy of Excellence and Dedication
– On August 4th, 2023, over 40 Taekwondo masters who trained, learned, and worked under Grandmaster Sun Ki Chong gathered for one final class to celebrate his retirement.
It was more than a farewell. It was a reflection of deep gratitude for a teacher who shaped lives, and a legacy that now lives on through each of his students.
Master Jo was among those present, committed to carrying forward the values of excellence, respect, and leadership to the next generation.
Inspiring Through Action
– Master jo has continued to train consistently and has set a strong example of leadership by demonstrating proper technique in front of our students.
Beyond the Classroom
– I served as the coach of the demonstration team, and each year we participated in Taekwondo competitions together.
Deepening the Passion to Teach
– Master jo worked under Master Andy Chong-son of Grandmaster Chong, former head trainer of World Class Taekwondo, and founder of Taekwondo Generations in Roswell, Georgia-where he further deepened his passion for teaching and explored new ways to inspire the next generation. Learning from such respected mentors helped shape his mission to not only teach skills- but to help students grow in life.
Founded with a Mission
-At our dojang, our mission is to share the valuable lessons and experiences I’ve gained through Taekwondo with every student I meet.
I strive to be an instructor who genuinely supports each student and believes in their ability to go beyond their limits.
My dream is to build a Taekwondo school where students and instructors grow together-and, create a positive impact in the Braselton and Hoschton communities.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Taekwondo has brought me both great challenges and great purpose.
When I first came to the United States, teaching was not easy. The language barrier and cultural differences made it difficult to connect with students. Even though I taught for seven years at my first school, where there was no structured training system, I often felt unsure of how to teach effectively.
Later, I was fortunate to work at a successful Taekwondo school with over 2,000 students. I had the opportunity to train under excellent masters, including Grandmaster Sun Ki Chong, and learned so much. Yet, comparing myself to other talented instructors, I often felt like I wasn’t good enough. My confidence struggled, even as I was doing my best.
Despite those doubts, I believed in the value of my experience—more than 14 years of teaching—and decided to take the leap to open my own TaeKwondo School. Every year has been a challenge: improving my teaching, connecting with families, and building a school from scratch. But each challenge has been a step toward growth.
Taekwondo is not just a sport to me. It changed my life. I was a shy 4-year-old boy when I started—and now I’m honored to teach others in the U.S. It has given me the strength to never settle and always strive to become a better version of myself.
Today, my dream is to share that same confidence and sense of achievement with every student. I want to be the kind of instructor who truly believes in each student and helps them break through their own limits. That is my calling, and the heart of my dojang’s mission: to grow together and make a positive impact in the community.
