Today we’d like to introduce you to Queen Jen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been dancing going on nine years now. I started training in jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary and even hip hop. I took a year off from dancing in 2018 and now I’m a full-time professional dancer while also being a full-time student at Kennesaw State. Towards the end of 2020, I started to choreograph dance pieces, which eventually led me into teaching my own heels class, Lavish Lettos. Not only has teaching made me into the creative that I am now, but it has also inspired other dancers to continue to do what they love.
One thing I teach in my class is don’t worry about what you look like to others. As long as you’re doing what you love, that’s all that matters. Choreography has also led me to being casted for multiple music videos. I’ve choreographed pieces for many local artists and hope to work with many more in the future. Artists also reach out to me to help cast dancers and models for their videos or projects. As a result of this, I started my own Casting Agency, Queen Casting, that helps provide paid work to all aspiring models, dancers and creators. I love what I do and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve definitely run into some obstacles along the way. One of the biggest things I’ve had to overcome is other people’s jealousy towards me. I have a lot of people who hate on me because of what I do. I’ve lost a lot of what I thought were close friends because of my profession. I’ve had one person specifically tell me that they don’t want me in their friend group because of the fact I take photos in lingerie. It took me a minute to realize that the more someone grows, the more haters they’re going to have. With success comes hate. It’s terrible that it’s the truth, but there’s nothing I can do but grow and accept that people will hate on me just because they can.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One thing that sets me apart from others, especially when it comes to my Casting Agency, is I provide everyone an equal opportunity to be apart of my projects and bookings. I’m not too worried about the money, but the opportunity. I know if I would’ve had someone to provide me with these opportunities, I would’ve took them and ran with it. I’m so happy to be that person that can provide those opportunities to others.
One thing I’m most proud of is how reliable my brand is. I’ve had many people, including artists and models, compliment me on my ability to get things done. I just launched my casting page at the beginning of April and I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to book people for every gig I’ve posted. One thing I want everyone to know about my brand is that they’re making the right choice when choosing Queen Casting. Queen Casting now has packages available to anyone who is serious about being booked. The money made with these packages gets invested into the page itself and services outside of the page, such as photoshoots, workshops, free classes and even Queen Casting events. There is a lot of hard work that goes into my casting agency and I just want that hard work to pay off for others.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very shy and very much an introvert growing up. I got bullied all through elementary and middle school. I was very much overweight so I got picked on a lot for that. I didn’t have many friends so I kept to myself a lot of the time. I also grew up an only child in a single-parent household. I would still consider myself to be an introvert today too, but my job kind of forces me to get out of my shell.
