Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Angel Krause

Angel Krause shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Angel, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I’m always laughing when I get to work with people in the community, but something that particularly made me feel proud was our response to our first annual reward show. We did nominations and it blew us away but the amount of people that showed up to vote for their favorite indie horror projects was next level exciting for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Angel and I’m the founding host of the Voices From the Mausoleum brand. Voices has its hands in everything. We cover all sorts of horror on our channel, but I branched out and even opened an indie horror publishing brand under the same name. I really didn’t have anyone in my day to day life to talk horror with so I decided to take a leap and start doing YouTube. It grew into something I could not have managed. I would say the most unique thing, and what I personally love the most about Voices, is that we cover all horror. From movies, to fx, to games, and even books. Our award show, The Sacred Crypt Awards, even covers content creating, books, and movies. There aren’t many places out there to find this much about horror.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I was already doing content when I met my partner, Ada. but I think she really drove me to do more. She saw how much the book side of things meant to me and she really encouraged and supported me to do more with books and writing. I have a lot of support and great friends I’ve met along the way, but I would say she was the true force between me broadening my horizons and developing my brand into what it is today.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t listen to them. Follow your instincts and do what brings you joy. Also, you’re gay. So don’t punish yourself and love who you are.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Oh absolutely. I don’t edit our shows or anything. If I forgot something, there is no cuts. If I butcher something, it stays in. My opinions are honest and raw and I’m the same whether it is in purpose, a message, or on camera. I’m always my authentic self. Although I do have to cuss a lot less at work.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
This is beyond cliche, but nothing. There isn’t anything I’m doing now that I would stop. Nothing would change it, so why bother? I’d just focus on doing what I’m already trying to do; live my life to the fullest.
