We recently had the chance to connect with ArtByGwn and have shared our conversation below.
ArtByGwn, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
There’s a lot of recent moments where I’ve laughed & felt proud afterwards. One example, anytime I catch myself stressing about a current situation, I think about the goals I had in the past & how I’ve accomplished them now. It always makes me laugh because I’m living the life that I wanted a few years ago & that makes me proud!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am ArtByGwn! I’m a local artist in the Atlanta, Ga area & was born and raised here. I’ve done murals across the city, and massive paintings of some of your favorite rappers. I’m mostly known for my work as a tattoo artist, which I started in 2019 & specialize in black & gray realism. Currently, I spend my free time building my clothing line which was started in 2024, & we’re approaching 2 years of being in business!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I believed that I had to conform to what other people did in order to be valued. As I grew up, I realized I didn’t have to live in that box that everyone placed me in. I could be outspoken, I could be creative, I could be non traditional, I can just be me.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
The most important thing suffering has taught me is want I don’t want in life. Suffering has been the teacher of my younger years, it gave me the opportunity to experience things in life that I wouldn’t want for my future. Success is great, but suffering is what brings you to the road of success when you’ve had enough & need a change.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I would say smart people are going wrong with not being good listeners. In the day & age of AI, it’s easy for our generation to think we have all the answers but the truth is we don’t. It’s important for smart people to listen & comprehend what the generation before us has to say because they’ve lived it! A lot of the time we think reading about something is good enough, but when a person who actually experienced what you’re reading about is giving knowledge, just listen & learn.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow I think my customers would miss my conversation, my professionalism, and the passion I have for what it is I do.
