Carmen Alexis shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Carmen Alexis , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
On a normal day I will start by going to my 9-5 job before going to the studio in the afternoon. I have sessions that last three to four hours. The studio really is my safe space. After the studio, I will workout, eat dinner, & spend time with self. I think it’s extremely important to prioritize self. Leaving room for self-care has created balance within my life that has brought me so much joy. Productivity coupled with relaxation, decompression, & fun is how i remain at peace.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Carmen Alexis, that artist you’ve been waiting for. Hailing from the ATL, I am an
upcoming singer, songwriter, and model with music running through my veins. When you hear my music, you have to do a double take because you don’t expect such a powerful voice coming from this petite artist.
What makes me so special? Be it singing in the church choir or writing songs in my
bedroom, I have always been involved in music since an early age. I’m a young artist with an old soul. You can hear in my voice the influence from some of the singers I would listen to as a kid like Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, and Adele. My mom would always have music playing in the house or the car. I would sing along with her and try to figure out the harmonies.
Songwriting is something that I love to do and I’m always up for the challenge.
Creating something new on the spot can
be frustrating but I try to tap into the vibe
of the song and find its voice which helps
me to find my voice and the story.
You can hear this on the song Priceless from recording Big Rube which features
my sonrgwrtitng and vocal skills. In
2024 I released my first single entitled Like Water. This 80s inspired dance song, written by myself and John Pressley, which gave my listeners just a little taste of what I can do.
With that said, it didn’t take long
before my talents reached the ear of Super Producer Chazz Oliver. As he puts it “Not only is Carmen an exceptional vocalist, she is also an amazing songwriter”. In July of 2025, Chazz and I released our first single together, entitled Just One Night, providing a vibe that would be felt all over the world. Chazz is currently producing my highly anticipated debut EP which is set to be released in 2026.
I believe I truly am blazing my own path. I bring a unique style to contemporary pop and r&b by melding the nuances of the 80s/90s with the fresh sounds of today’s hottest music. Come be part of the vibe that is Carmen Alexis!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I firmly believe my parents saw me clearly before I could see myself. I come from two very encouraging and supportive parents. They both knew I was meant for greatness very early on. I always wanted to entertain my family which turned into them constantly asking me to entertain them later on in life. I was consistently told that I had a God given gift that should not be ignored. My parents have invested so much into my journey, how could I now feel as though they saw me before I did? I hold onto the words of encouragement as a reminder of who I am when I am creating. Whenever my confidence wavers, I remember the affirmations that have been spoken over my life. God gave me a gift to share with the world and I am forever grateful to my parents for believing in that gift because now I get to live out my dreams.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain and began using it as a super power the moment I decided to start Monday Motivation. From 2020-2023 I sent out text messages to everyone in my phone purely because I wanted to spread love and light. I was struggling in my own way and motivating was my way out. Monday Motivation became the foundation of my later self-published book entitled Little Black Book by Carmen J. I used my pain to create a motivational self-help journal designed to provide a tool for others to continue on their journey towards self-actualization. My book is available for purchase on amazon.
I also believe music has been a space where my pain has been turned into power. I feel powerful when I am recording. I feel powerful when I’m using songwriting as a form of therapy. I feel powerful knowing I am producing music that will invoke feeling in others. Inspire others. Make others feel seen. Music is a gift to all. Being apart of that process, it’s extremely powerful and without my painful experiences there would be no Carmen Alexis. Carmen Alexis was born out of pain. She is the warrior that made it through and now she inspires others to do the same.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I think anybody who knows me would agree that the public version of me is 100% the real me! I wear it all on my sleeve. I am unapologetically Carmen. I have no shame in my game. I love who I am. I’m not here to please the public but to experience them in my own way which means being myself and being open to getting to know others in a real way. As someone who strives to be of service to others, being myself is the only way to accomplish that goal. I think a lot of people are shy to be their authentic selves in public but I say YOLO! We only get one life! What’s the worst that could happen? You’re judged? Whoopty doo! As long as you love yourself at the end of the day, the judgement from others does not matter. That is why I am Carmen 100% of the time.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I am gone, I hope that people will tell a story of resilience. I hope people will know how much I overcame to be the person I am. Perseverance has been my favorite word since I was nine years old. It’s always kept me on a path of never giving up. So much so that even others have said “Carmen will free fall with reckless abandonment but I’m never worried because I know she’s going to land on her feet”. I am resilient because I have never been broken by my experiences. I’ve been through a lot. No more than the next person, but nonetheless I have fought through the darkness. I want people to know it’s possible to defeat the darkness and live in the light.
