Kendra Crump shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Kendra, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day looks like me fellowshipping with El-Shaddai. I am nothing without Him. My goal is to be fellowshipping with Him all day. I’m actually glad now that I am at this place because there was a time, where I would only spend several minutes daily creating a transactional relationship with Him. Now that I’m at a mature place, I make sure to include Him in everything I do. Without starting my day with Him, then my entire day is off-track.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello everyone, my name is Kendra Crump, and I’m an author, comedian, interviewer, grad student, and reading tutor. Everything that I listed was a dream of mine at some point, except being a reading tutor. I finally got the courage to go after what God told me to do regarding interviewing entertainers. This is something that I have been having the most joy in, knowing that one day I’ll be on the status of Oprah. I cannot wait until I’m booked and busy, where I’m having to schedule guests out weeks in advance.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with Christ. Once I realized how much He loved me, and within Him, I can do all things through Christ, I was unstoppable! I would meet people who would say so many negative things that really stuck with me, and caused me to not have faith in myself. it took some time, but I was able to finally arrive out of listening to the negativity, and be able to remember that being a royal priest of the King, is going to get me further in life, no matter what adversities I come up against.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes! There have been a slew of times where I wanted to be in a microwave type of career setting. I didn’t want to wait years until I finally made it. I wanted things to happen now! It would become discouraging if I’m doing comedy by traveling to different venues, and the crowds in one city are staring me down with some excellent jokes, and crowds in another city are cheering me on. Or being told that a person wants me to show up and they’ll pay me, but it’s a price that doesn’t work with me, and then they have a problem with that. However I know that there will be times where you will have to go against those adversities, and still remember why you started.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
For the longest, they would’ve said wanting to get married, but now getting deeper in my relationship with Christ. Once I was informed by respectable Godly people that marriage was in the plans for me, I then started obsessing over it, turning it into an idol. Now the only thing that I have to daily remind myself is that my only obsession should be Christ.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace not dealing with people, and being able to watch devotionals and meditate with Elohim.
