Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Timmy Turn Up of Pittsburgh

We recently had the chance to connect with Timmy Turn Up and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Timmy , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m chasing Greatness while hoping that leads to true happiness & freedom by the end without that chase I would lose all sense of purpose & Drive to be more than what I am now it’s my unbreakable spirit & unwavering will i believe that will set me apart enough to have my own lane in whatever avenue I pursue because you don’t hear to many others who possess those same traits not end up being big difference makers in the field they are apart of

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Me & My Bm separated within the last couple years which is an experience tons of young African American males will experience and tons of males in general atleast in America, I knew going into it, it would be a up hill battle I could never imagine that with 50/50 custody they would still put me on child support & that they are that involved in our personal affairs I understand no man should be a deadbeat but should you be penalized for making money… if you are forced into working for free or risk being incarcerated is that not a form of slavery , mind you the government has money if they want to give her some money during 50/50 custody to even the playing field shouldn’t they use some of those tax dollars they are so quick to send to other countries? It has made me feel like the US is a labor camp disguised as land of the free they just have to acquire slaves in the very sneaky way of saying but you broke the law hence why African Americans are incarcerated at the highest rate

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes I remember when I first started rapping a contest to open up for lil Wayne was happening and I had never done a audition or even recorded a song I just had rapped over beats on YouTube so I could do it in one take a lot of the time & I came completely unprepared compared to the seasoned artist there who had full songs recorded to show them vs me who had to just live perform with a YouTube free type beat playing, I wanted to quit the walk home with my sister knowing I dropped the ball on something I wanted so bad was disheartening & the talent level just felt to high and I felt embarrassed to have missed the mark so bad and be so new it felt impossible to catch up to those who had been doing it, but instead decided to learn from the experience so from then on I was showing up with finished songs being the polished artist worth having do a big show instead of the wanna be not yet really a artist

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My Girlfriend hopefully one of these days turned fiancée My children My siblings Parents & Grandparents especially but my whole family in general I just love them all very very much without them their would be no me & and I wouldn’t think being here was worth it I think it’s important for every human being to have that group of people you can be yourself around that inspire you to do good and hold you accountable the times you are going off track and my is amazing at it and I love and admire all of them

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Internet presence I think tons especially 30 & up underestimate the value of networking and growing using social media the amount of times I hear yeah but I don’t have enough followers or there’s no point unless you run ads is almost alarming, post daily content you enjoy making and have fun growing instead of trying to rely on real life local connections
