We’re looking forward to introducing you to YC Neko. Check out our conversation below.
YC Neko, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Not being cliche at all , I start off waking up on the studio couch . I immediately go to the computer and open up what I made the night before because I record everyday… I kinda vibe off of that and next I start my hunt for beat selections which if I’m lucky, takes 15-30 minutes but if nothing is really catching my ear could take upward of 2hrs . I get my morning session out because some reason I just make good songs early mornings . That’s my first 90.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
For most I just go by Neko but on my platforms I’m YC NEKO . The YC stands for (Yawehs Child) due to the fact I feel every thing I have is god given it’s everything I asked for and I couldn’t be here without him. I’m a music artist from Atl, Ga with a brand I came up with called JUNGLE CHILD. . The name comes from my upbringing where I was considered the black sheep of my family . I took that mixed with everything I been through with relationships, friends , and misfortune and made it my own art . Right now I’ve recently released a new album called “SAME DIFFERENCE” on all platforms since not releasing HIT EP “Jungle Child”
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I was in a long relationship with a person she was really brilliant , college girl and all but also very domestic and uneasy most of times . Outside of that She played a major part in my early success and didn’t mind going half on anything when it came to my dreams . Somehow she found a drug that reshaped me and her forever .. I took some years away from music after not from recording but from releasing I wasn’t really feeling myself. I’m back and here to stay just was hard watching a love one become strung out it taught me a valuable lesson. I have to make it because if I don’t more will lose faith .
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Overthinking. I think I could have been out I just vision things a certain way and if they don’t come out like so I give it up , but that’s not the way to be . Everything doesn’t have to be perfect content is content , you choose your own creation
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
You need to do it overnight. It takes growth and maturity to take on that world . I’ve seen the top before and I plan on seeing it again this time my way .
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people tell how much times and hours and years I really gave this . I hope they tell you everyone who’s come across me has said the same thing I am who I say I am . Sometimes I feel like that’s the only time I feel alive is when I record I hope they know the real me .
