Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffani Hawes.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2006, I graduated from Savannah State University and was heading to Texas to attend law school. However, my plans got diverted when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I ended up putting law school off for a bit and went to Augusta State and studied for a paralegal certificate instead. I received my paralegal certificate in a year and upon graduation, I was hired at a real estate closing law firm making $9.00 an hour.
I worked at this law firm for a year and I was able to find another job working for another real estate law firm making $30,000.00 a year. I worked at that job for a year and the economy crashed and my husband lost his job. When my husband lost his job that was the perfect time for us to move to Atlanta so that I can pursue my law school dreams. My husband was able to find employment in Atlanta and I was also able to find another real estate paralegal job in Atlanta. Once in Atlanta, I decided to apply for law school in 2010. I was accepted at John Marshall Law School and started attending night classes in the fall of 2010. I worked as a paralegal during the day from 8:00 to 5:30 pm and I went to law school at night from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm after I got off work. I managed to do this for 3 1/2 years all while being a mother and a wife. In December 2013, I graduated from John Marshall Law School, had my second child and took the bar in February of 2014.
In May of 2014, I found out I passed the bar on my first try and I immediately opened up The Hawes Law Firm in June of 2014. I have now been in business for 4 years and the growth of my business has been amazing! I am thankful for my clients and my employees who have allowed me to grow at the pace that I have grown in all while keeping the small boutique feel of a law firm that my customers love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My road has definitely not been smooth. Having a child so young is life-altering and really could have caused me to never go to law school. However, although my dream was delayed, I managed to stay focus and move forward on the same path of law but on a smaller scale than law school itself. My advice for young women just starting out on their journey is to remain focused! No matter what obstacle comes your way keep moving! If you keep moving at some point you will end up at your destination.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Hawes Law Firm – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in real estate closings. I run a full-service real estate law firm practice. I am known for being the fun, relatable and knowledgeable closing attorney. I am most proud that I have been able to remain who I am as a person and grow my business the way I want to and not be held down by society’s norms. My personality sets me apart from other real estate closing attorneys. In this particular law practice, the process is the same no matter where you go. However, when the clients come to my office, I create an experience for them, an exciting one at that! Closings should be fun and memorable because it is such a great accomplishment and I want my buyers and sellers to celebrate!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
It’s funny, I actually vowed never to read another book after graduating law school and I have stuck to that vow. I think my children motivate me to be better and do better every day!
