Today we’d like to introduce you to Alenya Mouton.
Hi Alenya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We all have gifts and talents from God. My gift came through a childhood laced with vivid imagination and creative freedom that was embraced by my amazing family. While my family still teases me, my imaginative play was always welcomed and I’m forever grateful to my late parents for allowing me to simply be myself. My favorite “toy” as a child was a set of screws that I repurposed into stick figures. In my mind, those screws had a life of their own while being transported via a tv remote which were the perfect vehicle to stop them from rolling. That was my first memory of rare creativity and 4 decades later, it has landed me with a thriving balloon decor business while juggling the role of a full-time Speech Language Pathologist with a clinic on the horizon.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
LenCreates’ biggest obstacle is embracing the business requires more than just me. As the installations become more intricate and larger in scale, the need for help has become inevitable. Part of my resistance to actively pursuing help was rooted in some denial that this once hobby is now a solidified business. There are still times I walk away from an installation and am in awe that my hands created it. Having support comes with its challenges as small details are a big part my successful execution. I’m sensitive to minor details which can sometimes be difficult to have replicated when other hands are involved. Recently, I’ve been blessed to have my oldest niece become my second pair of hands. She is a creative in her own right. Interactions can get intense during setups, but she has witnessed how small details impact the bigger picture. I’m grateful that this is a hurdle that I am finally on the other side of. That is, until the business grows further.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to think of myself as the “mom and pop shop” of balloon decor. I specialize in building connections with my clients to execute their vision no matter how big or small the setup may be. I’m most proud that 90% of my clientele are referrals. There are several groups of neighbors/friends that collectively refer and hire LenCreates. I’m truly their “balloon girl”. One of the best feelings in the World is showing up to an event and other clients are there. As I leave, they remind me that I’ll see them at the next event. One of my largest installations was a corporate event that came as the result of a referral from a birthday party. I was so surprise to learn that’s how I had landed the job. I am known for pouring creativity, love and detail precision into making celebrations extra special. Repeat customers are the driving force that has built LenCreates from a hobby I was hesitant to even create an Instagram account for to a thriving business that pours back into me all I pour into it.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as using my God given talent in every space that allows. Success is how I contribute to making the space I’m in better. Whether I’m in a speech therapy session or creating a balloon display, some questions I ask myself are:
Did I prepare enough for the desired outcome? Did I adequately manage time? If I repeated this, what would I do differently the next time? Would God be pleased with how I handled the situation? Does this align to who I am and want to be?
Success defined: Outside of my physical presence, confidence that my actions, words and work, are a true reflection of who I am.
