Today we’d like to introduce you to David Anthony
Hi David , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for fashion and entertainment started as a young man in Brooklyn and Long Island New York. I grew up around very fashionable and talented family members and others in my communities. I was granted with opportunities to expand my vision by being a part of musical theater and fashion clubs. I always loved seeing my aunt sew and hear my mom sing and watch as my dad and grandfathers dressed. I used to always sneak in my dads closet and just stare at his clothes and secret try on his wardrobe and smell his colognes. i was always blessed to wear the latest styles of my era.
As I grew up I started to add my own flare to my personal style by taking urban fashion and mixing it with tailored looks. After graduating from Freeport High School, I started working in retail fashion, Modeling, then Dancing on Club MTV. Those experiences opened and expanded my love for Fashion. I was able to wear designer clothing and model and dance in such elaborate and classic garments. it was during that time that developed a passion to style others and help others feel like the best version of themselves and understand how their personal styles can impact their professional and personal brands.
A few years into my journey I started styling models (while working in corporate America) then business associates. that’s how I got my start as a personal shopper, and From there I was Blessed with a position as Director of Entertainment at Hal Prince Music where I was given the opportunity to style and give wardrobe advice to clients.
Once relocating to Atlanta in 2010 I took on a few clients, produced two fashion shows and expanded my business to offer more diverse services.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth. I was met with many obstacles along the way. Having to do things for free to make a name for myself, although i had already proven myself in New York, Atlanta was a different story. I along with an initial business partner had to fund everything out of pocket. I took on some clients and some opportunities for less pay just to get my foot in the door. Once I started getting noticed I moved from the desire to style just celebrities, back to my original foundation. which was to be available to style anyone who needed help with the ‘STYLE IDENTITY” (my tag line ) this is where me becoming an Image Consultant started.
I was also blessed with opportunities to do wardrobe styling on sets and videos and learning the value of quality clients vs quantity.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As of 2018 I expanded my services to offer, Image Consulting, Wardrobe Styling, Personal Shopping, what sets me apart is I work from the format of Enhancing the Minds Eye on Fashion. Keeping Faith first then the Vision and it all will end in the Perfect “Style Identity” that fits your personal or professional life style, or both. Helping my clients to see that Faith and Fashion are impactful to the success of their brands and style life. What are you wearing as your garments? is it anger, depression, pain, or are you walking in your authority clothed in garments of Faith, Grace, Hope, Love, are you wearing your blessings. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to style moms and dads, teenagers and young children, business professionals, speakers, authors, models, actors, dancers, singers, designers, I’ve even done a few speaking engagements on fashion (which I would love to do more of that). All of that has led me to walk through Amazing doors. God is at the center of it all.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people here in Atlanta met me in the Fashion industry, They don’t know that I come with a diverse background in Entertainment, Retail, Dance, and entertainment. I also love to cook and am I’m a big time foodie, movie lover most importantly i love spending time with people who lift each other up and keep me grounded in my faith.
Achieving The Title as Costumer, lead Wardrobe Consultant , as well as Having worked as a Production assistant, 2nd AD, Stand in and Featured background actor. has helped me grow in wisdom and knowledge as a creative. i even love creating content for my brand and others.
