Life & Work with Indy Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Indy Wilson.

Hi Indy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in media with a deep curiosity about storytelling and a desire to create spaces where women—especially women of color—feel seen, heard, and empowered. Early on, I immersed myself in broadcasting, eventually hosting my own live radio show, Girl Let’s Win, on iHeartRadio. That experience gave me full creative control and taught me how to lead, produce, and connect with an audience in real time. The show has since evolved into a podcast, and it remains a reflection of my voice and vision.

As I continued growing, I expanded into television and film, working both in front of and behind the camera. I’ve had the opportunity to work at Tyler Perry Studios, serve as Casting Assistant Intern, a stand-in for Kelly Rowland, and be part of powerful projects like Six Triple Eight, All The Queens Men and more. I’ve also worked as press for BET, which strengthened my understanding of media from a strategic and industry perspective.

Beyond production, I’m passionate about impact. As a member of ForbesBLK and a founding member of the Gyrl Wonder community, I’m committed to shaping the next generation of women leaders in media and entertainment. My journey hasn’t been always easy, but every step—whether on set, behind a mic, or in a networking room—has been intentional and worth it. I’m still a student of the game, constantly learning, building, and positioning myself to create meaningful content that inspires and uplifts

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many creatives navigating media and entertainment, I’ve experienced moments where opportunities didn’t unfold the way they were presented, projects shifted unexpectedly, quiet seasons. There were times I had to pivot quickly, advocate for myself, and trust my vision even when the path wasn’t clear.

I’ve also had to navigate the reality of being a woman of color in spaces where representation still matters deeply. That comes with learning how to own your voice, stand confidently in rooms you worked hard to enter, and remain professional even when things feel uncertain behind the scenes.

But every challenge sharpened me. Delays taught me patience. Disappointments strengthened my discernment. And the quieter seasons built my discipline and faith. Instead of allowing setbacks to define me, I let them refine me. They pushed me to build my own platforms, create my own opportunities, and lead with intention.

The road hasn’t been smooth — but it’s been purposeful. And I’m grateful for that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work across media and entertainment as an actress, host, media personality, and creative professional with experience in television, film, radio, and digital content. I specialize in storytelling—whether that’s through performance, on-camera hosting, or meaningful conversation that connects with audiences on a deeper level.

As an actress, I’ve had the opportunity to work on major productions, including projects at Tyler Perry Studios, where I gained invaluable experience both on set and behind the scenes. Being part of film and television productions strengthened my discipline, range, and understanding of the craft. It also deepened my respect for the collaborative nature of storytelling.

In addition to acting, I’m known for creating intentional spaces for dialogue. My show Girl Let’s Win, which began as a live radio show on iHeartRadio and is now evolving as a podcast, centers empowerment, growth, and honest conversations about purpose, relationships, and ambition.

Behind the scenes, I’ve also worked as press for BET, giving me a strong understanding of media from both the creative and strategic sides. That dual perspective allows me to move with awareness — not just talent, but intention.

What I’m most proud of is my growth and versatility. I’ve stepped into rooms as talent, as press, as production support — and in every role, I’ve remained committed to excellence. I’m proud that I didn’t box myself into one lane. I embraced being multi-dimensional.

What sets me apart is my emotional intelligence and vision. I combine creativity with strategy. I care about impact just as much as visibility. Whether I’m acting, hosting, or building platforms for women, I lead with purpose and substance.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is impact. Visibility is beautiful, but impact is lasting. I care deeply about creating work that moves people—whether that’s through a character I portray, a conversation I host, or a platform I build.

I’m especially passionate about creating spaces where women, particularly women of color, feel empowered to evolve unapologetically. Representation shaped me. Seeing what’s possible changes how you see yourself. So I don’t take lightly the responsibility of being visible in this industry.

Growth also matters deeply to me. I’m committed to being a student of the craft—learning, refining, and stretching beyond comfort. Every opportunity I step into, I want to leave better than I entered, both personally and professionally.

At the core, I care about purpose. I don’t want to simply exist in rooms—I want to contribute to them. I want my presence, my work, and my voice to mean something long after the moment passes.
