Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Lang.
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story begins with an idea, a business plan, and 500 dollars to start. In my plan, I stated that I wanted to start a brand that empowered women to feel beautiful from the inside out. Therefore I did just that. Within 2 months I enrolled in esthetics school and became licensed in makeup application and esthetics. “When there is vision there is opposition.”
I believe in this quote wholeheartedly because I had a lot of failures when it came to being successful in entrepreneurship, but I always came out even better than before. Today I am still going strong in my business and now I am adding to my original principle of making women feel beautiful from the inside out by attending natural hair school.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When someone asks me what is the best quality about myself I always say it’s that I didn’t quit. My struggles were mainly from comparing myself to another artist’s work and, expecting family to support and invest in me.
I would put myself down without knowing I was doing negative self-talk. I learned that the thief of joy is comparison. I’ve committed to positive self-talk, believing in myself, and knowing my biggest supporters wouldn’t be family but it would be complete strangers.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My art is makeup. Not only Glamorous makeup but SFX makeup as well, which is special effects makeup. On the day-to-day, I travel to clients and execute glam makeup for photoshoots, weddings, and professional headshots. My dream is not only to be a makeup artist for models and the day-to-day person but to create makeup looks for sci-fi and horror films.
I am the most excited about expanding and learning from others through networking. I’ve gotten this far by networking with people I come in contact with on a daily basis and the lesson I’ve learned through this is to seize every opportunity that is thrown my way because I will never know the outcome until I try.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that this was not something I stumbled upon or Luck. I’ve catered to my craft, poured into my craft, prayed over it, and nurtured it until it came to fruition. Luck is when opportunity meets preparation and I’ve been preparing my whole life for what is to come. The one event I am very proud of is being provided a billboard in my hometown of Memphis, TN.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
I learned it was very important to have more than one source of income from my business because we never know what could happen. I also learned the importance of sanitation and cleanliness. Germs spread rapidly and it is our job to minimize cross-contamination at any cost.
