Life & Work with Kayla Fuller of Other

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Fuller.

Hi Kayla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion for hair has always been about more than creating beautiful results—it’s about helping people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. Even in school, I was the friend who was always styling everyone’s hair or doing their makeup before special events.
While attending cosmetology school, I began working in a salon where I had the opportunity to learn from an incredible group of talented women who helped shape me into the stylist I am today. Later, I was given the opportunity to specialize in lash extensions at a new salon, where I continued advancing my education, refining my skills, and growing both personally and professionally.
As my experience grew, so did my passion for hair. I worked hard to expand my clientele, knowing how challenging it can be to build a business in such a competitive industry. Through consistency, dedication, and confidence in my work, I was fortunate to earn the trust and loyalty of so many amazing clients.
Wanting to take the next step in my career, I made the exciting decision to open my own salon suite in Dawsonville, Georgia. It has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made. Building my own business and brand has required countless hours of hard work, perseverance, and faith. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has helped shape the stylist and business owner I am today.
I am incredibly grateful for every client who has supported me along the way, and I look forward to continuing to grow, learn, and help every person who sits in my chair leave feeling their absolute best.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The beauty industry is filled with incredibly talented stylists, and while that has been inspiring, it has also come with its challenges. Building a career in such a competitive industry wasn’t always easy, and there were times when I didn’t feel fully accepted or respected. Those experiences taught me resilience and helped shape me into the stylist and business owner I am today.
Throughout every challenge, my confidence, determination, and faith in the Lord gave me the strength to keep moving forward. Starting my own business at a young age was both exciting and intimidating. While I was in cosmetology school, I had people tell me I wouldn’t be successful, that I would struggle financially, and that building a loyal clientele would be nearly impossible.
Instead of letting those opinions define me, I used them as motivation to work even harder. I am incredibly thankful for my parents and family, who believed in me from the very beginning. Their constant encouragement and support gave me the confidence to continue pursuing my education, follow my dreams, and build the career I always envisioned—despite the negativity I encountered along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Master Cosmetologist and proud business owner with a passion for helping others look and feel their best. I specialize in lash extensions, blonding, lived-in color, spray tans, and hair and makeup services. The beauty industry has always been where my heart is, and nothing is more rewarding than helping my clients feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.
One of my greatest accomplishments is how far I’ve come at such a young age. Building my business has taken dedication, consistency, and countless hours of hard work, but every step has been worth it. I’ve worked hard to create not only a strong foundation for my business but also meaningful, lasting relationships with my clients. Their trust means everything to me, and I never take for granted the opportunity to be a part of their lives.
I’m also incredibly proud of the personal growth I’ve experienced throughout this journey. I’ve always been naturally shy and reserved, but becoming a salon owner has pushed me far outside of my comfort zone. It has helped me become more confident, outgoing, and passionate about connecting with others. Today, one of my favorite parts of my career is meeting new people, building genuine relationships, and helping every client leave my chair feeling beautiful, confident, and empowered.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The best advice I can give to anyone entering the beauty industry or opening their own salon suite is to never let other people’s opinions determine your path. Believe in yourself, trust your talent, and stay confident in your work. Success doesn’t happen overnight—it takes patience, consistency, and a lot of hard work.
There will be long days, late nights, and moments when you question yourself, but don’t give up. Every challenge you overcome and every hour you invest in your business will be worth it. Stay focused on your goals, continue learning, and remember that your journey is unique. If you remain dedicated and true to yourself, all of your hard work will pay off in the end.
