Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Carson Miller.
Hi Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve enjoyed two distinct career paths, both rooted in my love of lifestyle, beauty, design, and connecting with people.
My first career was in the salon and spa industry, where I developed a deep appreciation for beauty, customer service, and creating meaningful experiences. Later, I transitioned into freelance lifestyle writing, contributing to both print magazines and online publications. Over the years, I wrote a beauty column for a local magazine and covered topics ranging from salons and spas to resorts, home interiors, gardens, fashion, and creative entrepreneurs from around the world.
While working as a freelance writer, I also worked as a personal shopper for Simon Malls. I was hired to work with clients at Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, which were among the highest-grossing properties in Simon’s portfolio at the time. I assisted clients with wardrobe selections, home-related purchases, and finding pieces that reflected their personal style.
One of my favorite career stories is how I landed that role. Someone in the Lenox Square office noticed my Twitter posts featuring stores and shopping finds from the mall and reached out to me. It was an early lesson in the power of social media and proof that sharing your genuine interests can sometimes open unexpected doors.
My longtime interest in lifestyle-related pursuits eventually led me to create shopping pages on ShopMy and LTK, while also publishing a subscriber email, maintaining a website, and sharing content on Instagram and Pinterest.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Last summer, my mother passed away unexpectedly. We were very close, so naturally it changed everything for me and for my family. As difficult as that season was, it also prompted me to take inventory of my life and my work. I began looking carefully at where my time and energy were going each day and realized I wanted to slow down and be more present.
I evaluated every aspect of my business and asked myself not only what was working, but what was worthy of my attention at this particular stage of life. As a result, I chose to let go of Pinterest, my subscriber email, and my website. What I discovered was that less really can be more. Releasing commitments that no longer aligned with my goals created space for more creativity, focus, and enjoyment.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Today, I focus primarily on Instagram, where I share an authentic look at everyday life through home, garden, style, flowers, and the small details that make a life feel personal and well-lived. I collaborate with brands that align with my point of view and curate collections through ShopMy, LTK, and Poshmark, where readers can explore the products and pieces I genuinely use and love.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Over the past year, I’ve become increasingly passionate about photography, which makes Instagram a natural fit for me. It allows me to share both images and perspective in a way that feels authentic. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that there is tremendous value in trusting your own point of view rather than comparing yourself to others. The things we are naturally drawn to—favorite rooms, familiar routines, beloved pieces of clothing, flowers from the garden, a favorite neighborhood restaurant—often become the threads that define our personal style and make our work recognizable.
My focus is on documenting beauty when I encounter it. Whether it’s flowers from the garden, a favorite room in our home, an outfit I genuinely love, or a memorable meal, I share what naturally captures my attention and reflects my point of view.
