Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Ollivierre.
Natalie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Charmed by Natalie Marie at the end of 2019, a few months after moving to Atlanta from Baltimore, Maryland. I grew up in Florida and my Caribbean parents taught me to go after anything I wanted.
After spending years teaching during the day and working as a bottle girl and bartender in the DMV club scene, I wanted to do something different. My paternal grandmother was an entrepreneur and I spent countless hours at flea markets with my mother as a child. I’ve always been a bling fanatic (one of my childhood nicknames was Sparkles) so it made perfect sense to take my love for everything that sparkles and turn it into a business.
My original goal was to serve the bling community as an affordable supplier for the supplies artists needed to create custom pieces for their clients without cutting into their bottom line. I spent months creating custom shoes for myself, friends, and family members before I offered my own masterpieces. In September of 2021, I garnered over a million views on TikTok for a video scrubbing a pair of custom shoes I created. I received an influx of followers and began constantly receiving requests for information and questions about how I was able to create solid work that didn’t fall apart. As a career educator, I knew I had more to offer to the craft community, so I began teaching other women how to capitalize on a booming niche and turn their crafting hobbies into profitable businesses. In the past year, I’ve provided tools to over 100 women to help them get started in the craft business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The struggle has been real! I am very open about my mental health journey and the difficulties I’ve faced navigating depression, overcoming overwhelming trauma, and experiencing major life changes all while keeping my business afloat.
I host live sessions on social media to provide free tips and share advice while I work on custom orders. Ladies who can’t afford sessions or are unsure about investing in their craft can learn and have some of their questions answered while picking up techniques from viewing me work.
The entrepreneurship journey is often a lonely hard road, and I am committed to being vocal and honest about the parts that are often left out of the discussion. I have had to learn as I grew and am constantly discovering new things about myself, how to best serve my clients and the importance of recognizing my own strength.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create custom clogs and slides for women and girls to complement their style. Whether they are over the top or committed to comfort, I bring my clients’ vision to life on shoes that they love to wear. I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to create eye-catching looks that are classy, dazzling, and durable. I was the first bling artist (to my knowledge) who was willing to go against the popular opinion that customs could not be submerged in water or scrubbed. Now, it’s the common way for artists to show that their work is solid.
What’s next?
Recently, I launched a line of anklets to complement custom shoes and have other accessories in the works.
In the future, I plan to continue to help women elevate their hobbies into income-producing businesses.
