Today we’d like to introduce you to Natiajah Hughes.
Hi Natiajah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began doing hair when I was 17 years old and gotten into the cosmetology program in my high school during my 11th-grade year. I started off by just making custom wigs doing my own hair until my senior year. I decided to take hair seriously I worked out of my grandmothers house for a couple of months after quitting my first job and months later saved up enough money to get my very own suite that I designed to take clients I put in a lot of late nights & overworking and moved out of my grandmothers’ house at 18 and at the age of 19 I moved to Atlanta to further my business! Now I’m located in the heart of the city and expanding more than ever!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had a lot of obstacles that could have tore me down. My hometown wasn’t really that supportive of what I was doing and a lot of people talked bad about something that I started to fall in love with, and that was my passion for hair! When I first moved to Atlanta, I lived on the south side and was salon hopping because I couldn’t find a good fit for me. I’m an only child so living on my own in a new state was extremely scary for me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I can technically be called a “Celebrity Hairstylist” I have worked with certain celebrities in the short year I have lived in Atlanta. I specialize in lace as in Lace wigs and sew-ins. The best part of being a hairstylist is the transition to have ladies feeling like queens while sitting in my chair!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up was rough. I was raised by my mom and grandmother. I was the only child, so I didn’t really have people around 24/7 to play with, so I did a lot of activities such as cheerleading, dance, etc. High school Tae was a little rebellious up until the age of maybe 17 years old I started to put my future first more than wanting or being cool.
