Life & Work with Nikki Alva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Alva.

Hi! Thank you so much for the opportunity of talking with you guys!
A little bit about my story is, I was born in New York, my parents are Colombian, and as for my musical career, I have been growing in the industry since I was a child.

Since I was nine years old, I began to go on stage singing different rhythms from North America. My dad has always been in the industry as well since he was little, being a tremendous musician, so because of him, music was a huge part of my life. At 13, my father invited me to go on stage with him and sing some salsa songs in a very large concert. When I felt the live band of 13 musicians that accompanied me, I felt such amazing adrenaline and fell in love with this genre, that is when I realized I wanted to sing for the rest of my life. At 15, I released my first professional single in salsa.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always struggles but thanks to God I have had such an amazing support system from my family, friends, and fans, so even in the hard times, I have been reminded everything that I am doing is worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Latin-American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, dancer, actress, audio engineer, and music producer. I dream of adding a new style to Latin and English music: my goal is ultimately to be an international music artist. I try to be very versatile in everything I do, but I have such a great ambition to continue in the genre of Salsa. Thanks to God, I have had a great journey and have had many accomplishments. One of the many experiences I will never forget is getting the opportunity to be a part of a national TV show, “La Banda.” This was a universal, Latin-American TV show, a singing competition that aired on Univision. The judges on the show were Laura Pausini, Wisin, and Mario Domm. This competition was where musicians and singers from the U.S. and Latin America competed for a spot on a new band formed by Ricky Martin. I auditioned to go on the show in New York with all of the 14,000 people that auditioned and I was one of the 100 participants selected to audition on the TV show in Miami, Florida! I passed my audition with all three judges saying yes, and made it up to the middle rounds. It helped me so much along the way of my career and has made me learn about another side of the industry. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to show what I love to do and meet other musicians who have the same passion as I do and exposure on the show was tremendous.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
