Life & Work with Robert Hobbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Hobbs.

Hi Robert, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Robert Hobbs, originally from Greensboro, NC, I was raised in Georgia, the youngest of three brothers and one sister. The Perfect Amputee all started with me losing my left leg in a car accident on September 23, 2008. According to doctors, I am a living testimony, 2012 I was convicted of a crime that I knew everything about. I just did not physically commit myself.

I served eight years in prison, from the age of 19 until I was 27, which I came home on June 13, 2020, while incarcerated that’s where I was introduced to the drug methamphetamine once I tried it. It seems that all of my problems instantly vanished, the depression, insecurity, loneliness, anxiety, suicidal thoughts all went away, but in reality, they were only getting worse. Today I can tell someone else that I’ve been there too. The Perfect Amputee, my goal is to turn my experiences into my career, being sponsored by Polo to wear their clothing line for the entire year, taking pictures, traveling sharing my story, that’s the ultimate mission, changing someone else’s life through my testimony.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the road surely wasn’t smooth at all, I’ve battled with depression, suicidal thoughts, drug abuse in which my doc was methamphetamine, served eight years in prison. Growing up, I watched my own dad smoke crack cocaine, even beat on my mother, while my sister, that’s hearing Impaired cannot hear anything but feel the vibration, she would always run to me asking me what’s going on in sign language.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being that I never really had an opportunity to build a solid work-life as an employee, I’ve always had the opportunity to share my story, and it never failed that others would tell me, that’s what you supposed to be doing. What sets me apart from others is that the story is a part of me and I’m a part of my story so it comes naturally, I embrace who I am today, even when depressed, I smile, pick the phone up and keep going. What gives me joy is when someone else comes to me and tells me that my story changed their life

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
That no matter how many times I fall, the most important part about the fall is how I get back up.
