Today we’d like to introduce you to Tazz Santana.
Hi Tazz, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been intrigued by music for as long as I can remember. I was raised in the church, so that’s where a lot of influences came from sound-wise. As a child, I wasn’t allowed to listen to rap so I use to sneak and listen late nights on a portable CD player. From there, I just took off creatively, making my own songs. The love and passion I developed for music motivated me to get better but the most important factor was how much respect I had for the power of music. How I could change the way someone feels, which could turn an upside-down day right side up I found music to be a tool and my voice to be an instrument.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not; an abusive parent gave a lot of childhood trauma, early incarceration from bad decisions. Been homeless twice, sleeping in parking garages in Midtown and benches at centennial park. Having kids and not being in the proper position eats a man alive inside out. But I always found some type of beauty in my struggles I knew there was always a lesson to learn to keep me from going down the same road.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter, producer, audio engineer and an actor. I would say I specialize in setting the vibe, lol. Top tier for me is a standard. I’m most proud of my growth and my relationship with God. That relationship gave me the strength to continue the fight. I was born set apart; no two snowflakes are the same. What stamped me was my acceptance of being different and embracing Gods plan for my life because he made all of us different.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Take as much time as you need to learn what you need to know to be a success. When starting out, I can’t lie I wish I knew who I was. I started so early with no guidance in the lane I was traveling I made some bad decisions from not being in tune with who and what I really was.
