Meet Alonia “The Silky Songstress” Parks of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alonia “The Silky Songstress” Parks.

Hi Alonia “The Silky Songstress”, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been the soundtrack of my life. Although I built a communications career spanning more than 35 years as a journalist, speaker, communications strategist, life coach, and minister, singing has always been my first love. For many years, however, I put that gift on the shelf. In 2023, I experienced what I can only describe as a divine awakening. I realized I wasn’t supposed to choose between my gifts—I was supposed to use them together. That’s when I fully embraced my musical journey as Alonia, The Silky Songstress, and alongside my band, The Groove Theory Collective, we’re on a mission to spread love, joy, and peace through the art of music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle was finding my way out of the box that so many had confined me to. People often celebrated one gift while overlooking the others. If I was known as a journalist, they couldn’t see the speaker. If they knew me as a minister, they struggled to see the vocalist. Somewhere along the way, I began believing I had to choose. I learned to fall but not fail. I learned to cry but not drown in my tears. Today, I no longer live inside someone else’s definition of who I’m supposed to be. I’m walking fully in the purpose God designed for me. And that absolutely means that I have to step “out the box”. This may be challenging for some, but I welcome it as an opportunity to embrace my diversity as well as the diversity of others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m elated to have executed a vision of spreading love, joy and peace through the art of music. This vision is now called Alonia Sings & The Groove Theory Collective. At the time of this publication, we are planning our sixth full production, “The Soul Takeover”. Every production is intentionally curated around a central theme. The music, storytelling, visuals, and audience experience are all designed to create more than a concert—we create an experience that inspires, connects, and leaves people better than they were when they arrived.

Our upcoming sixth production, The Soul Takeover, continues that tradition. I’m incredibly blessed to collaborate with an extraordinary team of musicians, vocalists, and creative leaders who bring excellence, passion, and heart to every performance.

Every production also includes a giveback component because we believe great music of various genres should create lasting impact beyond the stage. Through our performances, we’ve supported causes including domestic violence awareness, autism advocacy, hunger and homelessness initiatives, education and scholarships, and faith-based outreach.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We’re excited to introduce our music to even more people. Whether someone discovers us through social media, attends a live production, partners as a sponsor, or simply shares our story, every connection helps us expand our mission of unifying the community through the arts. This support fortifies our efforts of making a difference in the lives of young people through our nonprofit organization, The Dream Institute Collaborative, Inc. We create programs that help youth with their creative expression through mentorship, communication training, and the arts. In essence, we believe music has the power to unite communities, inspire hope, and help young people discover their own voices. That’s the legacy we’re committed to building.
