Today we’d like to introduce you to April B. Love.
Hi April, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got where I am today by being available, believing in myself, and being willing to take chances. I have always stepped out on faith. Even as a child, I mentally outgrew my hometown years before I even moved to Atlanta. All of my experiences have helped to shape the woman I am today, even dating back to my childhood and teenage years. I took everything that was meant to destroy me and reprogrammed it to promote my successes. Always having a positive outlook on a situation is how you can reprogram your mind to use all the positives, negatives, progression and regressions to work in your favor. As a single mother with no male figures (after losing my father at a tender age), I was able to achieve what many dreams of. While I am still on my path of greatness, with so much more in my future goals… I am living proof that all things are possible. However, you can’t just say this and not act upon it, so all things are possible “if” you are willing to accept the challenge and not use your deficits as a pillar for failure. I have been through my fair share of hardships, but I was much more interested in shifting the narratives rather than using them to justify stagnancy. You only fail if you don’t try. If you try, there is no such thing as failure, just life lessons that will help you get to the next level. “Life is unfair,” sure, but what are you going to do about it?
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth, but I applied a little of my own cement – per say. I built buildings when doors closed elsewhere. As a small-town girl who literally built her career and legacy from the ground up. I’ve had several struggles, but being a single parent who strived to change the narrative for my children and give them a head start was the most impactful. I found myself in a new state (Georgia), attending college, working full time and commuting, all with two children who attended two separate schools, along with extracurricular activities. I still made it a point to be highly engaged in their education, as well as my own and my work. It was a challenge but also a great learning experience. To all the single parents, you can do it, and they do grow up!
One bit of advice that has always worked for me was, “don’t be afraid to walk away from toxic situations; jobs, friends, romantic relationships, family, neighborhoods, etc.” Your growth begins the moment you have faith and receive a direct word, then act on what’s already yours. Also, healing is a huge part of our personal success. We often turn our focus to external issues like the shortcomings of others when we find we’re not reaching our own personal and interpersonal goals, but looking inward and focusing on grounding our own spirit allows us to tackle our external challenges more positively and efficiently. A healed you is always a better you. Things like being more honest about your feelings to yourself and your loved ones and going to therapy can tremendously catalyze your personal growth and help uncover your own truths. I’ve always believed that change happens when each person does their part, so change starts with you and in your home. You can’t pour from an empty cup, so before your “march” for a greater cause, start with you and your immediate family first. Also, being humble and expanding your perspective is key. Some individuals judge you based on your level of success (in their eyes), therefore understanding how others perceive you can aid in building better relationships.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m April B. Love, Television Host/ TV Personality of the Learning to Love TV Show. My television show airs globally (weekly) on Amazon FireTV, FireStick, Roku, Apple TV, Apple devices, Android devices, and locally on Atlanta local TV Station 16.5/ PTWWN TV Network. I also have a long list of expertise—most notably, I’m a Global Author and Web Engineer. To find out more about me, please visit AprilBLove.com. My TV Show, Learning to Love with April B Love, is a series that highlights real-life issues regarding navigating interpersonal relationships and learning how to love yourself and others. Introducing difficult and suppressed topics from a practical point of view, with the goal of diversifying and intensifying the types of conversations that we have with ourselves and our loved ones. This show illustrates how to have difficult conversations, embrace change, break down barriers that stunt your growth, and build an undeniable relationship with God. We discuss topics such as Mental Health, Healthy Relationships, Surviving Trauma, Parenting on Purpose, Building Generational Wealth, and Breaking Generational Curses. Interested guests should visit my website and submit their interest to tell their story or share their area of expertise with our viewers.
I’ve also authored a journal entitled “The Brown Girl, a Generational Curse Breaker Journal.” This journal serves as a guide to your generational curse-breaking journey, allowing you to identify toxic patterns that were passed down from generation to generation. The journal promotes healing and forgiveness and encourages you to identify and develop ways to achieve your goals. It’s something that I’m extremely proud of, as I wrote it partially in honor of my late grandmother who was my rock and best friend and always dreamed of writing her own book.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people don’t know that I am a walking movie sequel… my life is comprised of a series of unique stories and events, either personal or those I have personally witnessed. My children often joke that my experiences sound like they’re out of a book or movie because I have experienced life on so many different levels. When I speak to others about my experiences, they are always amazed and generally find a takeaway – a life nugget. My experiences are a part of my journey, and I embrace them. Those who embrace their experiences find peace and joy, rather than pain and anguish, in the fruits from those experiences. My show, my parenting style, my career, and just the way I move about life has always been about embracing my own truths in a way that will encourage others to do the same. I seek to encourage everyone—from the small-town women to those that feel stuck in their work environments, to the single mothers, and to those who grieve, and tell them I’ve been there and I continue to triumph through hard work and faith. I am committed to leaving a legacy of love no matter where I go. ~ April B. Love, MBA, PHR
