Meet Ashley Shannon of Plenty TLC Childcare Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Shannon.

Hi Ashley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always known that working with children was my calling. Growing up, I naturally gravitated toward caregiving and education, and by high school I was already intentional about that path. I enrolled in a half-day early childhood education program designed for students pursuing careers in the field, which gave me my first real hands-on experience and confirmed that this was more than just an interest, it was purpose.

I went on to study Early Childhood Education at Kennesaw State University, and during that time I immersed myself in the field. I worked in daycares, babysat for multiple families, and secured my first long-term nanny position, where I supported a family part-time for five years. That experience was foundational. It showed me the depth of impact in one-on-one care and the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with both children and parents.

After that, I transitioned into the school system, where I worked as a special education paraprofessional in a Pre-K classroom serving students with autism. That role deepened my understanding of individualized care and developmental support. I later moved to a private school in downtown Atlanta as an assistant teacher, working with students experiencing homelessness. That experience was especially meaningful and gave me a broader perspective on how environment and access shape a child’s development.

Eventually, I felt called to return to more personalized, in-home care and went back to nannying. In December 2019, I launched Plenty TLC Childcare Services while still working full-time. What started as a passion project has grown into a nanny referral agency focused on connecting families with reliable, experienced, and thoroughly vetted caregivers. My journey has always been rooted in service, and today I am able to support both families and caregivers in a more impactful, long-term way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been building and pouring into my business while still working full-time. There were seasons where I felt stretched thin, trying to show up fully for the families I worked with while also growing something of my own behind the scenes. It required a lot of discipline, long days, and learning how to stay consistent even when progress felt slow.

I have also had to navigate a very competitive market. There are many nanny agencies in the Metro Atlanta area, so finding my lane, identifying my ideal clients, and building a brand that truly stands out has taken time and intentionality. At times, it was challenging figuring out where I fit, but it pushed me to get clear on my values and the level of service I want to provide.

Overall, these challenges have helped me grow into a more focused and resilient business owner. They have strengthened my vision and reinforced my commitment to building something meaningful for both families and caregivers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Plenty TLC Childcare Services is a nanny referral agency serving families throughout the Metro Atlanta area. We specialize in connecting families with reliable, experienced, and thoroughly vetted nannies and caregivers for both long-term placements and occasional childcare needs.

Childcare is a necessity, and we take pride in helping bridge the gap in access to quality, in-home care. Our approach goes beyond simply making placements. We focus on creating thoughtful, well-aligned matches that support both the child’s development and the overall flow of the household.

What sets us apart is our approach to vetting and matching. We do more than verify qualifications. We take the time to truly get to know both the caregiver and the family to ensure alignment in communication style, expectations, and long-term compatibility. Our process includes detailed screening, reference checks, and intentional matching so that families are not just receiving candidates, but carefully selected options that fit their lifestyle and needs.

As a former career nanny myself, I bring a unique perspective to this work. I understand firsthand what makes a placement successful, the challenges caregivers face, and what families truly need in their homes. That experience allows me to approach every placement with both empathy and a high standard of care.

We also place a strong emphasis on education. Many families are unfamiliar with what it means to hire a household employee, so we guide them through expectations, structure, and best practices to set both parties up for success. At the same time, we meet families where they are. For those who prefer a more hands-on approach, we offer options such as our Bring Your Own Nanny service and a DIY Nanny Hiring Guide, giving them the tools and support to navigate the process confidently.

What I am most proud of is the trust we have built. Plenty TLC Childcare Services is rooted in relationships, and our goal is to create placements that are not only successful, but sustainable, where both families and caregivers can thrive. As we continue to grow, my vision is to expand our reach within the Atlanta area and beyond while continuing to elevate the standard of care within the industry.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating environments where both children and caregivers feel supported, valued, and safe. At the core of everything I do is the understanding that childcare is not just a service, it directly impacts a child’s development, a family’s peace of mind, and a caregiver’s livelihood.

Because of my background in childcare, I have seen firsthand how the right support system can positively shape a child’s growth and a family’s overall well-being. I have also seen the challenges that come from misalignment or lack of structure. That is why I place such a strong emphasis on intentional matching, clear expectations, and education throughout the process.

I also care deeply about supporting families and individuals within my community. Being able to serve the families around me and create opportunities for caregivers locally makes this work even more meaningful.

Supporting the nanny community is also very important to me. I am passionate about creating spaces where caregivers can learn, grow, and feel connected, which is part of why I have been involved in hosting professional development opportunities like International Nanny Training Day. Investing in caregivers not only strengthens them individually, but elevates the level of care they provide to families.

It is important to me that caregivers are respected and placed in roles where they can thrive. I believe that when caregivers feel valued and supported, it naturally reflects in the level of care they provide.

Ultimately, what drives me is the ability to create meaningful, lasting connections. Knowing that I play a role in helping families function more smoothly while also supporting caregivers in building sustainable careers is what makes this work so important to me.
