Hi Bill, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got my first pedicure three years ago, and it came as a Father’s Day surprise from my wife. The thought of getting my nails done never crossed my mind and I didn’t know anything about the process. I reluctantly obliged and to my surprise, it was a very pleasant experience. Being an occasional runner, I had developed calluses on my feet and after the pedicure, they were all buffed away. As I sat in the salon soaking my feet, I felt all my worries, responsibilities, and stress vanish. It was both relaxing and peaceful, a combination I rarely felt. Little did I know, this was the beginning of a passionate future for me and the beauty service industry.
A few years passed, and from time to time, I thought about getting another pedicure. The main reason I never went back was that I didn’t want to go to a nail salon by myself. It may be silly, but I felt I would lose some of my masculinity doing something like that. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve cared less about what others think. However, this was something I’ve been unprepared to face.
During the pandemic, I reflected on the things I took for granted, such as getting a haircut. If beauty services were more accessible, perhaps I would feel more comfortable getting a pedicure? Beyond the circumstances of the pandemic, I thought about seniors and people with busy schedules or limited mobility. I felt the pain of not being able to get a haircut. I understood the challenge and knew what had to be done.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve started a fair number of businesses and faced countless challenges and failures. From building the right product to creating and serving the market, we encounter challenges from every angle at HereSpa. And after making peace with this fact, we stay focused on being agile and listening acutely to the world around us.

What does success mean to you?
Success means achieving my goals. It’s equally important to define my goals as it is to work towards them. Every year, I start with a victory board of the things I want to accomplish for the year. I start with broad ideas and refine each to be as detailed as possible, with clear and distinct metrics to assess progress. As the list becomes more detailed, my goals become clearer. Starting the year knowing exactly what I want to accomplish ensures I am holding myself accountable. To me, success is achieving the goals I’ve set for myself, year over year. Over time, the small successes add up.
