Meet Chelsia Mckie of Life Beyond The Game

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsia Mckie.

Hi Chelsia , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Chelsia McKie is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and the Founder & CEO of Life Beyond The Game, a national organization dedicated to preparing students for the next level and for life beyond their final buzzer. Sports is a universal language—you either play it, watch it, or know someone that does. Because of that, one of our main focuses is student-athletes, but we also recognize that everyone is playing the game of life, so all are within our sight of impact.

As a former AAU boys basketball coach, she saw the need while sitting in the gym one day to coach the other side of the game. She realized that many students needed more direction and knowledge about the next level, both in the game and in life. In that moment, the vision for Life Beyond The Game began to take shape. Through mentorship, exposure, and intentional programming, the organization helps students discover purpose beyond sports.

A passionate educator, advocate, and mother of three, Chelsia brings together experience from corporate leadership, education, and mental health to create meaningful impact. She earned her B.A. in Communications from Savannah State University and later obtained a Master’s in Educational Leadership, serving as a classroom teacher, behavior specialist, and school leader.

Today, she consults with superintendents, district leaders, and principals nationwide, helping shape the future of education. She also holds a Master’s in Professional/Pastoral Counseling with a focus on trauma and has a mission to break stigmas and support youth both in and beyond the game.

Grounded in her belief in trusting the process, Chelsia continues to expand the dream—ensuring students are prepared not just for the game, but for the life that comes after it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been the mindset shift that this work requires. There have been times when athletic directors and coaches have told me that this type of work is not needed, because their focus is primarily on the actual game and winning. Is that all coaches? No. However, there often isn’t the same level of urgency when it comes to making sure students have a plan, understand how to get to the next level, and know what lies beyond it.

At times, that can be disappointing. However, I’m an educator at heart, and educators don’t stop teaching. I won’t stop inspiring or influencing change. I will continue to share why this mission is important and why it matters that schools, coaches, and communities get involved. For me, it’s bigger than the game—it’s about making sure students are prepared for life beyond it.

We’ve been impressed with Life Beyond The Game , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Life Beyond The Game is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) national organization dedicated to preparing students for the next level and for life beyond their final buzzer. While sports are a major focus because they are a universal language—you either play it, watch it, or know someone that does—our mission is bigger than sports. We recognize that everyone is playing the game of life, so our goal is to equip students with the tools, knowledge, and exposure they need to succeed beyond the field, court, or track.

Through our experiences, workshops, and partnerships with schools and community organizations, we focus on areas such as mental health, financial literacy, career and workforce pathways, leadership development, and next-level preparedness. One of the things that truly sets Life Beyond The Game apart is that everything we do is interactive, hands-on, and rooted in real-world application. Students are not just listening to speakers—they are actively engaged, participating, asking questions, and walking away with real knowledge they can apply in their lives.

Brand-wise, I am most proud that Life Beyond The Game has already expanded into four different states and has hosted eight experiences within the first 365 days of being publicly live. That growth shows the need for this work and the impact it is already making in communities.

What I want readers to know most is that this mission is about more than sports. It’s about making sure young people are prepared, confident, and informed about the opportunities ahead of them. We are not destroying the dream of sports—we are expanding the dream and helping students understand that their purpose and potential go far beyond the game. I know the impact will continue to grow.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along this journey is that everyone can’t come with you as a leader. When you are on a mission to change the world, it requires a higher level of focus, dedication, and time. Not to mention, I am also a mother of two teenagers and an elementary school son. My time is limited, and every minute of every day counts. Any extra time I have goes to my family.

Because of that, I have lost friendships along the way. There are people who may not understand the calling or the mission. And while that can be difficult at times, I have learned that purpose requires sacrifice. Staying committed to the vision means focusing on the impact and continuing the work, even when everyone may not understand the journey.

When you truly believe in the mission, you learn that not everyone is meant to walk every step of the path with you—and that’s okay.
