Today we’d like to introduce you to Darris Rushing.
Darris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My whole life I have loved fashion, so when I graduated high school and moved from Sacramento CA to Atlanta GA to attend the Illustrious Clark Atlanta University, I knew I had my mark in the city. In the middle of my 1st semester of college, a celebrity wardrobe stylist by the name of Shun Melson posted that she was having a 2-day styling class which taught me everything I need to know about wardrobe styling. I networked myself and my brand everywhere I went with business cards and all my social media platforms. I got my 1st celebrity client last year when I was a freshman in college and from there I blossomed.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest obstacles I deal with is going to college while being a celebrity wardrobe stylist. Being a stylist takes a lot of time especially when the clients is a celebrity. You have to deal with a lot of things when working with celebrities that you may not have to deal with any other clients. I Have had to leave class and go to video shoots or stay up late night for fittings and be up early for class. Its honestly the most tiring time being in school and styling celebrities but when you love what you do you keep on going.
Please tell us about D.Rushing.
I’m a celebrity wardrobe stylist, I put looks together for Tv stars, musicians, actors and more. I’m known for my styling being featured on Vh1’s Love And HipHop ATL, BET weekend looks for Sky from VH1’s Black Ink Crew and the styling for the cover of AlphaMagazine’s February issue featuring R&B singer Jacquees. I’m most proud of myself because even tho I’m only 20 I’m craft and brand is being took serious. What sets me apart from others is my creativity and uniqueness.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently because everything that I have done from good to bad has taught me a lesson.
