Meet DJ NECII of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ NECII.

Hi DJ, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am both a DJ and a designer. During the Covid pandemic, I began designing clothing out of sheer boredom, which eventually evolved into a business. Throughout 2023, I frequently expressed my intention to become a DJ; however, I sensed that those around me doubted my seriousness. It was not until October 2023, when I ventured into a guitar center and purchased my first controller, that I took the definitive step towards fulfilling my aspiration of becoming a DJ.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Designing clothing often presents various challenges, but patience is essential for navigating these hurdles in the fashion industry.

As a woman in a predominantly male environment, these challenges can be even more pronounced. It is common to encounter individuals who prefer competition over collaboration, making it difficult to establish productive working relationships. This dynamic can be particularly challenging, as the reputation of these individuals can overshadow your efforts, leading to concerns about being perceived as a source of conflict.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am both a DJ and a designer, focusing on creating custom clothing that makes my clients feel their most beautiful. In my role as a DJ, I excel at setting the atmosphere; I love to dance, and I believe that my energy encourages others to join in and enjoy themselves. Balancing a full-time job with my passions for DJing and design is challenging, but I am committed to building a future where I work for myself. What distinguishes me from other DJs and designers is my genuine care for my clients. For me, this is not merely a job for profit; when someone chooses to buy from me or attend my DJ sets, it holds significant meaning. I take pride in crafting memorable experiences, understanding that for many, these moments may provide a much-needed escape from their daily struggles.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
If you encounter someone ready to mentor you in acquiring a new skill, seize the opportunity! Genuine guidance from someone without the fear of being outshined is rare. I am particularly grateful to DJ Magic Kenny for his mentorship. Additionally, attend events! Engaging with others can lead to valuable connections, as you may meet individuals who have influential networks or know key people in your field.
