Meet Donna Davis of Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Davis.

Hi Donna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After working in tv news as an anchor and reporter, I started my own video production and live streaming company. We help companies tell their unique stories through video production. We also help organizations create better communication experiences through multi-camera broadcast quality live streams.

We are living in truly amazing times. It used to be that only large broadcasting companies could reach millions of people spontaneously through broadcasting. Now, any company can reach people all over the world simultaneously with an incredible production, and it’s affordable. The best part about it is that, unlike broadcasting, communication is interactive. The broadcast includes comments and questions from the audience. The speakers aren’t just “telling” people something, they are getting feedback and reacting in real time. That’s what I love about live streaming.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think every industry has its challenges. Video production is no exception. Ironically, as the demand for video has increased dramatically, the more difficult the industry has become. When I started my first video business in 2006, the challenge was helping people understand why they might need a video and how it would help their business. We were putting videos on dvds, and few people were using video online. Then, the challenge became how to get video online without dragging down the website and making it take too long to load. YouTube basically solved that issue as well as making sure the video played on every browser.
Online video exploded in about 2007, and then the economy tanked in 2008. Then, the challenge became finding businesses with money to spend on anything that wasn’t essential. By the time the market recovered, people were shooting video on their phones and tablets, and every kid coming out of high school knew how to shoot and edit. The challenge now is setting yourself apart from a hugely competitive landscape of video companies. Today, every business has dozens of video companies calling on them, and every marketing company offers video production.
Video production is fun and creative, and many people absolutely love doing it, and that’s why it’s so competitive. The strength of my company is the ability to listen well to what clients need and envision, my story telling and interviewing skills, and my sincere interest in seeing my client’s get results from their videos.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Pro Video Talent specializes in marketing videos that tell the story of how a client used the company or service and shows the business owner as an expert. We rarely create ads or hard sell videos. My belief is that story is the perfect way to sell. The prospect visits a website, sees a video with another person who has the exact need they have, as well as all the same concerns about choosing the right company. They meet the client, relate to them and see how the company was able to help. I believe people want authenticity. So, we rarely use scripts. We conduct interviews, just the way I did when I was a tv reporter. We strive to help people feel really comfortable in front of the camera. That way, they are genuine and sincere. No one is script reading. The business owner is asked about how they helped, and hopefully their knowledge and passion about their work comes through. I’m most proud when my clients LOVE their videos and when they tell me a video is working. It’s helping them connect with buyers and helping them sell more effectively.
We also do live streaming, and that’s really gratifying as well. I love it when clients are pleased and feel we helped them communicate effectively. What sets us apart is that we are really easy to work with. Whether it’s live streaming or video production, we start with understanding the client’s goals, needs, vision, and budget. Then, we offer a few options to help them achieve what they want. We also show examples of similar projects to make sure expectations are realistic. We aren’t focused on trying to upsell clients but rather on offering the best way to maximize their budget. If we aren’t a good fit, we’ll help them find the right company for their needs. I think the experience is as important as the final product. We want clients to have a positive experience and feel good about their investment.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love so much about Atlanta and the metro area. I love that there is so much to do, that we are a thriving and diverse city. People are moving here. New businesses are always opening. We have great sports teams.
My neighborhood is so diverse. People from all over the world live on our street. I enjoy living in a place where everyone doesn’t look like me. That’s so uninteresting. I just love the culture and vibe of the city as well as the hometown charm of Marietta.
What I don’t like is probably the same thing everyone else doesn’t like. The traffic is terrible. Rush hour is awful. Thank goodness I can avoid it most of the time. Housing has become ridiculously expensive. That’s terrible for young people who are looking for homes now and those who are growing up and will need housing soon. We really need more affordable housing and more apartment complexes.
