Today we’d like to introduce you to H. Dean Reynolds.
Hi H. Dean , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started as a musician first. Growing up Jamaican with a deep love for gospel and Christian music, I learned early that music is ministry, but it is also business. I spent years sharpening my craft as a bass player and music director, serving in churches and working in media and broadcasting. Over time, I realized a lot of talented artists were leaving money and ownership on the table simply because nobody taught them how publishing, copyrights, and royalties really work.
That became my turning point. I moved from only playing and producing to building a mission around helping artists protect what they create and get paid for it long term. Today, through Dean Reynolds Music Media LLC, I coach independent artists and Kingdom creatives on music publishing, copyright strategy, and royalty collection, while still staying active as a working musician. My goal is simple. Help creators turn songs into assets, build a real catalog, and create legacy income that supports their calling
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was learning the business side of music the hard way. Early on, I watched talented artists, including myself at times, miss out on royalties and ownership because we did not understand publishing, splits, or how to properly register and protect our work. That taught me that passion alone is not enough. You need education and structure.
Another challenge has been navigating ADHD while building. My mind moves fast, I have big vision, and I can create a lot, but staying focused, finishing projects, and not getting pulled in ten directions at once has been a real battle. There were seasons where I had to learn how to slow down, build systems, and turn my creativity into consistent execution instead of scattered ideas.
On top of that, I was balancing church responsibilities, media work, and entrepreneurship all at the same time. Time, money, and clarity were not always there, and I had to stay consistent even when results were slow. I also had to push through imposter syndrome. Going from being known as a musician to being seen as a coach and educator takes confidence and patience.
The obstacles shaped my mission. They made me more intentional about helping artists avoid the same mistakes and build a real legacy through their music.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a music publishing coach, music director, and bassist who helps independent artists and Kingdom creatives protect their songs and get paid from what they create. I specialize in the business of music, publishing, copyright strategy, split sheets, registrations, and royalty collection so artists can build real ownership and long term income, not just streams and applause.
I am known for breaking down complicated music business topics in a simple, practical way, using real world experience from decades of working in church music, media, and production. I also lean into AI tools and systems to help creators move faster and stay organized, especially artists who are creative minded and may struggle with consistency.
What I am most proud of is helping artists shift their mindset from hobby to legacy. When someone finally understands publishing, registers their catalog correctly, and starts collecting royalties they did not know existed, that is a win that can change a family. What sets me apart is that I speak both languages. I understand the creative side as a working musician, and I understand the business side as a publisher and coach. My goal is to help artists turn their songs into assets and their calling into a sustainable career.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising most people might not know is that my ADHD is actually one of the biggest reasons I teach the way I do. For years, I had to build my own systems to stay focused, finish projects, and turn big creative ideas into real results. That is why I break music publishing down so simply and step by step. I am not just teaching information, I am teaching a process that works for creative minds like mine.
Another thing people may not realize is that I am still a working musician while I coach. I am in the trenches as a bassist and music director, so everything I teach is based on real life experience, not theory. That mix of creativity, structure, and faith is what shapes my brand and the way I serve artists.
