Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Ricks-MBA.
Hi Isaac, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Chicago, IL May 27, 1986. When I was six months old, my biological mother was killed by my father. I didn’t learn of this until I was nine years old when my fraternal grandmother (who was raising me as her own) was killed by her husband. I was relocated back to Chicago to live and be raised by my grandmother’s sister, my great aunt. She raised me until I went off to college (Aurora University). At age 16, I was given information as it relates to my biological mother. This was the age I found out my grandmother was not my mother. As a result, I searched for my mother’s side of the family, learning that my mother had three children total which meant I had two siblings. Excited to begin the journey of discovering them, I hit the pavement literally going door to door on the south side of Chicago asking if anyone had any information on my mother or any family connected to her. I was blessed to find my brother’s grandmother who connected me to my brother Javonne (the oldest of my mom’s children). There was also our sister Bianca. She was killed barely three months after our mother. Javonne and I had been separated for 16 years before we met each other. Throughout my healing of learning of the tragedies, having been raped and molested I found peace in writing and even more solitude in cooking.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My road to the creation and operation of ItsRicksCatering LLC has been anything but smooth. Rewarding nonetheless. There seemed to be so many challenges that would present themselves the more I dedicated my energy and time to my craft. In December of 2018, I had to have emergency surgery to have my appendix removed. There were so many requirements to complete in accordance with state laws, funding, and securing the business name. Each endeavor however, proved to be very rewarding once complete. There were some friends lost on this journey as quite naturally running and owning a business requires endless amounts of time and dedication.
