Today we’d like to introduce you to J.Peterson Aulibrice.
Hi J.Peterson, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into fitness started long before I ever considered turning it into a business. As an athlete growing up, I was heavily involved in sports, particularly football and wrestling, which taught me the value of discipline, consistency, and hard work. Fitness became a natural part of my lifestyle, and while living in Florida, I began training friends and family simply because I enjoyed helping people improve their health and confidence.
As life took me across the country, my passion for helping others continued to grow. While attending college in Iowa, I continued working with individuals on their fitness goals. Later, after moving to Washington State to further my education, I expanded my experience by training college students as well as older adults, which gave me a deeper appreciation for how fitness can positively impact people at every stage of life.
Throughout these experiences, I realized that fitness is about much more than physical transformation, it’s about building confidence, creating healthier habits, and helping people realize they are capable of more than they think.
Eventually, my journey brought me to Georgia, where my business partner, Solomon Cooper, and I decided to fully commit to building GYWU Fitness. GYWU stands for “Get Your Weight Up,” but for us, it’s about more than gaining physical strength. It’s a mindset centered around growth, resilience, and challenging individuals to elevate every aspect of their lives. Our mission is to help people break unhealthy cycles, embrace positive change, and become the strongest version of themselves, both physically and mentally.
Today, GYWU Fitness continues to grow through personal training, wellness programming, community partnerships, and a commitment to helping people achieve sustainable, long-term results. What started as training friends and family has evolved into a business built on purpose, passion, and the belief that everyone has the ability to transform their life through health and fitness.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but the challenges have played a major role in shaping the business, Solomon, and myself.
Like many entrepreneurs, one of the biggest struggles was building something from the ground up while balancing work, school, personal responsibilities, and the financial realities of starting a business. There were times when resources were limited, opportunities didn’t come as quickly as expected, and I had to learn many aspects of running a business through experience rather than having a blueprint to follow.
Another challenge was relocating multiple times throughout my journey. Each move meant rebuilding my network, establishing trust within a new community, and finding new clients. While that wasn’t always easy, it taught me how to connect with people from different backgrounds and adapt to different environments.
As GYWU Fitness grew, I also realized that being a great trainer and being a successful business owner require two different skill sets. Learning about contracts, marketing, partnerships, operations, and business development came with a learning curve. There were moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and lessons learned the hard way, but each challenge helped strengthen the foundation of the company.
One thing that has kept me moving forward is the impact fitness has on people’s lives. Seeing clients gain confidence, improve their health, and accomplish goals they once thought were impossible reminds me why I started. Those experiences make the obstacles worthwhile.
Today, I view challenges as opportunities for growth. Every setback has taught me something valuable, and those lessons continue to help GYWU Fitness evolve into the company my business partner, Solomon Cooper, and I envisioned when we first started.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
GYWU Fitness (Get Your Weight Up) is more than a fitness company. It’s a movement built around helping people break unhealthy cycles, embrace positive change, and become the strongest version of themselves.
We specialize in personal training, customized fitness programming, nutrition coaching, stretching and mobility training, wellness coaching, group fitness classes, and community wellness initiatives. Our approach focuses on creating sustainable lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes. We believe that true transformation comes from the combination of effective training, proper nutrition, improved mobility, consistency, and accountability. Whether a client’s goal is weight loss, muscle gain, improved athletic performance, increased flexibility, injury prevention, enhanced mobility, or overall wellness, we develop personalized strategies that support long term success.
What sets GYWU Fitness apart is our commitment to building genuine relationships with our clients. We understand that every person has a unique story, goals, and challenges. Instead of offering one size fits all solutions, we take the time to understand each individual and create customized fitness, nutrition, and mobility plans tailored to their lifestyle, needs, and objectives.
Beyond traditional personal training, we have expanded our impact through wellness partnerships with residential communities, businesses, hotels, and hospitality organizations. By bringing fitness and wellness directly into the communities we serve, we’re able to create environments that encourage healthier lifestyles, stronger connections, and greater overall well being.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the meaning behind our brand. GYWU stands for “Get Your Weight Up,” but it represents much more than physical strength. It’s about elevating every aspect of your life, including your mindset, confidence, discipline, health, and commitment to personal growth. Our slogan, “Break The Cycle & Embrace The Change,” reflects the core mission that drives everything we do.
At the heart of GYWU Fitness is a passion for helping people discover what they’re capable of achieving. Whether someone is taking their first step toward a healthier lifestyle, learning how to fuel their body through better nutrition, improving their mobility and flexibility, or pursuing ambitious fitness goals, we strive to provide the education, accountability, and support needed to help them succeed. We want readers to know that GYWU Fitness isn’t just about workouts. It’s about empowering people to create lasting change and build a stronger, healthier future for themselves.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is to stay consistent and be patient with the process. Success rarely happens overnight, and there will be challenges along the way. Focus on building strong habits, continue learning, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes because some of your greatest lessons will come from them.
One thing I wish I knew when I was starting out is that being good at your craft is only part of the equation. Whether you’re in fitness or any other industry, it’s equally important to develop your communication, networking, and business skills. The more value you can provide and the more relationships you build, the greater your opportunities for growth will be.
