Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Angela Moore.
Jade, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all began in 2008 – my sophomore year of high school. I went to an arts school in DeKalb County called DeKalb School of the Arts. I took a theatre and film class and after the first day, I was hooked. You could not keep me out of that class. I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but there were times where I would skip my academic classes just so I can be in that class multiple times a day picking up all of the gems dropped by my teacher. That same year I entered my first film competition and won “Best in Acting”. I still have that trophy today. Winning that award my first time in a competition was a sign that this was one of my gifts. Fast forward to 2012 – my sophomore year of college. It was my 20th birthday and I was sitting in my dorm room. I had an epiphany – “What if I started my own production company?” I won’t lie…there were many doubts and fears crowding my mind. I mean, I was only 20 years old and I wanted to start a production company with no money and no network of people. However, I gave myself the best birthday gift ever – my own LLC which is now known today as Jade Angela Moore Entertainment.
Ten years later in February 2022 – on my 30th birthday – I celebrated ten years of being in business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel like chasing any dream never has a smooth road trip. I had projects that were never completed due to actors leaving during production. I had major credit card debt due to trying to finance my projects. I’ve lost relationships with people who I thought were in my corner. It’s definitely been a journey filled with trials and tribulations.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a film / series writer, producer, editor, and cinematographer. I know. It sounds like I do everything, but that’s what sets me apart from everyone else. That’s also what I’m most known for – “Jade can do EVERYTHING.” I have the ability to put an entire production together by myself from beginning to end. I know because I’ve done it for years. I’ve never been the patient type, so I learned the major steps of production so if someone leaves the production, like a cinematographer, I don’t have to wait and spend time trying to replace them. I can pick up the camera myself. I made sure that the only person that would hold up production would be me. That’s also what I’m most proud of. I managed to take control of my dream in that it would be a lot less factors for it to be deferred by others. However, if I had to declare my specialty, I would say my specialty lies in writing and producing.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
One person who deserves the most credit would be my father. I would not be in film today if it wasn’t for him. He is the reason I went to DeKalb School of the Arts. When I was in the 7th grade, my father came to me one day and told me about DeKalb School of the Arts. He told me about how I get to learn about different areas of the arts including music, theatre, dance, art, and film. I was so ecstatic about it so I auditioned and got accepted. The rest was history. DeKalb School of the Arts shaped me into the creative that I am today.
