Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian H. Ward-Butler. Them and their team share their story with us below:
“Menstrual health affects well-being. Limited and inadequate access affects health and wellness. Jilly Pads Period Pantry offers free menstrual products to promote health, education and address financial concerns. Making menstrual products free makes sense,” Ward-Butler said in a release. We deliver pads to people who ask, we have a bi-monthly “P. Street Reach”, where as we give out period products in backpacks, and we have outside access to Jilly Pad Period Pantries in four locations in Kentuckiana.
Jillian, 15 started Jilly Pads as a humanitarian community-centered organization at age 9. Jillian and her mother Nicole Y Ward who works as licensed Marriage & Family Therapists and Certified Sex Therapists will ensure people experiencing scarcity/poverty have access to the period products they need.
Jillian and her mom know some people have to choose between menstrual products and basic necessities like food. People might consider using rags or cloths, which may not offer healthy hygiene. Offering menstrual cups, pads, period panties, and tampons for free makes sense.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been times when our period product has gotten low. The community has always responded with donations.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Jillian is a 15-year-old sophomore high school student. Jillian is proud of Jilly Pads. Jillian is also proud of the connections and friendships created.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
