Hi John & Jenn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
United Travel was really born from our own love story and a realization that there had to be a better way for couples and groups to experience travel planning. Back in 2016, we planned our own destination wedding in the Dominican Republic while juggling careers and quickly realized how overwhelming and disconnected the process could feel. We spent countless hours researching resorts, trying to figure out who to trust, and navigating all the moving pieces on our own. At the same time, we also saw how transformative travel could be when the experience was done right. not just the destination itself, but the feeling of being fully present with the people you love most.
We realized there was a huge gap in the industry for ambitious professionals and couples who wanted elevated, personalized experiences, but didn’t have the time or desire to spend hours scrolling reviews or risking a five-figure vacation on guesswork. That’s when United Travel officially came to life.
Today, we specialize in luxury destination weddings, honeymoons, group trips, and celebration travel throughout Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and Virgin Voyages. What makes our approach different is that we personally visit the resorts, build relationships with the teams onsite, and immerse ourselves in the destinations we recommend. We always say we sit on planes, not in cubicles. Our clients trust us because we’re not just selling a place — we’re guiding them to create experiences and memories they’ll talk about for the rest of their lives.
Over the years, the business has evolved into a true boutique experience. We intentionally limit the number of clients we take on so we can stay hands-on and deeply involved in every trip and event. Whether it’s a destination wedding for 70 guests, a honeymoon, a milestone celebration, or just because, our goal is always the same: to make the experience feel effortless, personalized, meaningful, and unforgettable from the very first conversation to the moment our clients return home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most entrepreneurs, it definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road. One of our biggest challenges has been helping people truly understand the value of what we do because we’re not selling a tangible product someone can physically touch, taste, see, or smell — we’re creating an experience and a feeling. Luxury travel and destination weddings are deeply emotional purchases, but many people don’t fully realize how much guidance, strategy, organization, and behind-the-scenes expertise goes into it until they’re already overwhelmed trying to do it themselves.
A lot of what we provide is peace of mind. It’s knowing the resort you chose is actually right for you, having someone advocate for you when things go wrong, knowing the insider tips that are real and not crowd sourced, having expert guidance through contracts, guest logistics, timelines, and all the moving parts that most people never even think about until they’re in the middle of planning. Many times, people come back later saying, “Everything you warned us about ended up happening,” or “Now we understand why your job matters so much.”
Another challenge has been simply getting in front of the right people. Our ideal clients are ambitious professionals and entrepreneurs who value experiences, personalized service, and expert guidance, but in a world of online booking sites and social media, it can sometimes be difficult to cut through the noise and guide people in understanding the difference between booking a trip and having a trusted advisor who is invested in the success of your experience from beginning to end.
At the same time, those challenges have helped shape our business into what it is today. We’ve learned how important education, relationships, and trust are in this industry. And honestly, once clients work with us, they usually become lifelong clients because they finally experience what stress-free, effortless, personalized travel planning is supposed to feel like.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When most people think about booking travel, they picture flights, hotel rooms, and maybe someone helping them find a good deal. What we do at United Travel is so much deeper than that.
We are a boutique, concierge travel agency, specializing in luxury destination weddings, honeymoons, group travel, and celebration vacations throughout Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America (plus Virgin Voyages and Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection), but at the heart of it, we assist our clients create some of the most meaningful memories of their lives. Our clients usually come to us excited, but also overwhelmed. They’re balancing careers, families, social obligations, and real life while trying to plan experiences that are supposed to feel joyful and unforgettable. Somewhere along the way, what should feel exciting often starts feeling stressful or keeps getting pushed to the back burner.
That’s where we come in.
We’ve built United Travel around the idea that luxury is not just about beautiful resorts or upgraded rooms. True luxury is feeling cared for, understood, supported, and fully present in the moment with the people you love. From the very first conversation, our clients are not just another booking number or reservation in a system. We want them to feel seen, heard, guided, and genuinely taken care of throughout the entire process. Whether it’s helping a couple choose the perfect destination wedding resort, managing travel for 70+ guests, arranging special surprises onsite for a company celebrating a successful year, or simply being the calm voice on the other end of the phone when something unexpected happens, we become deeply invested in our clients’ experiences.
One of the things that sets us apart most is that we truly live the experiences we recommend. We personally travel to the destinations, tour the resorts, meet with leadership teams, and build relationships with the people onsite long before we ever send a client there. We always joke that we sit on planes, not in cubicles, but it’s true. We believe there’s a huge difference between selling a resort from a computer screen and standing on the property yourself, meeting the wedding coordinators, tasting the food, seeing the rooms, and understanding the little details that can completely shape someone’s experience.
We’re also incredibly proud of the trust our clients place in us. Many people first come to us while planning a destination wedding and years later we’re still helping them celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, family vacations, and milestone moments. Watching those relationships grow has probably been one of the most rewarding parts of building this brand.
At the end of the day, we want readers to understand that what we offer is not just travel planning — it’s peace of mind, guidance, connection, and the ability to actually be present for life’s biggest moments. In a world where people can technically book anything online, our clients come to us because they don’t want to spend a five-figure vacation hoping they made the right choice. They want someone in their corner who cares about the experience just as much as they do.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
One person who absolutely deserves credit in our journey is our mentor, Will Medina. He had a tremendous impact not only on our business, but on the way we view client experience, hospitality, and what’s truly possible within the destination wedding industry. At a time when we were trying to figure out how to elevate our services and create something that felt more intentional and high-touch, Will challenged us to think bigger. He helped us realize that we weren’t just booking travel, we were creating experiences, leading people through important life moments, and building a brand rooted in relationships and unreasonable hospitality.
A lot of the elevated experience our clients know us for today — the systems, the intentional communication, the attention to detail, the hands-on support — was influenced by lessons we learned through him. What’s interesting is that while his mentorship initially helped shape our destination wedding offerings, it naturally elevated every area of our business, from group travel to honeymoons and couples escapes as well.
When Will unexpectedly passed away, it deeply impacted so many people in the industry. But one of the most beautiful things to come from that loss was seeing the community he built come together. Through that network, we’ve formed incredible friendships and relationships with other travel advisors and industry professionals across the country who truly understand the unique challenges and rewards of this business.
Entrepreneurship can sometimes feel isolating, especially in an industry that looks glamorous from the outside but requires an enormous amount of emotional investment behind the scenes. Having a community of people we can brainstorm with, share ideas and tools with, ask advice from, celebrate wins with, and lean on during difficult moments has been invaluable. Many of those people started as industry connections and have become genuine friends.
Of course, our clients also deserve so much credit. The trust they place in us during some of the biggest moments of their lives is something we never take lightly. Every wedding, honeymoon, anniversary, and celebration trip we help plan has played a role in shaping who we are as a business today.
